Which is odd, because there really were no stakes at all. The games are really fun just cuz they were the first 3D adventure game the series had to the date. In my opinion, one of the only times I really 'felt' the being on a Pokemon journey. Somehow not competing against gym leaders and an e4- even tho the admins and final tourney filled both those roles- made the gams feel like something... really new? Even though it was exactly the same just with a slightly linited roster and special capturing mechanics

I honestly credit a lot of my enjoyment of them to the music. The soundtracks were epic, for lack of a better word. That, and the locations and atmosphere were quite broody, mixed with some joyful locations. It really just made the games more intense than they really were.

I replayed Gale of Darkness pretty decently and I had forgotten how much I liked these games. While variation in what you can catch is limited, I think it adds a certain charm to the game.

Maybe if there was some way to randomize the possible shadow encounters or something.

No there definitely is. I saw an anon post a randomized run of his team in Gale of Darkness in a team rate thread. He had shit like Swampert, Charizard, and a few others that aren't normally attainable. I'd imagine that can make the game a bit more enjoyable.

I hope the switch title is as good as these. The Orre games probably have the best stories out of any pokemon titles even for being spinoffs. I spent so much time on GoD, and quite a bit on Colosium. I remember as a kid, the last Colosium boss was impossibly hard cause of the stupid endgame level curve, so i ended up forgetting the game.

GoD was a lot better on the level curve, but maintained dificulty. All this pussy ass g6-g7 aint shit when you were forged in fire by gen 2 and GC games.
