Why have the games leaned increasingly on high level evolutions lately? With earlier pokemon like Dragonite or Garchomp, the levels seemed balanced in a way that players could reasonably get one playing through the game normally, but Gen V's seemed excessive. There's almost no incentive to get a Mandibuzz or Volcarona playing through the game normally, because the base pokemon are so weak.

The design of the game is being built more and more around online battling.
Also gen V's different exp function made them just go fucking nuts with all the evolution levels. Like fucking pawniard is ruined forever now unless they change evolution level.
