>in pokemon, mushrooms are grass types that can even learn synthesis
>real life mushrooms are explicitly not plants and cannot perform photosynthesis

Does this bother the hell out of anyone else?
>>
Not autistic so no
>>
Ghosts and dragons aren't don't exist in reality either. Why cares?
>>
Grass Type =/= Plant Type, now get over yourself.
>>
>>32904568
No because we're talking about a franchise that has dragons that don't even look like dragons and I'm not autistic
>>
>>32904593
>Grass Type =/= Plant Type
so what the hell is grass type supposed to represent if not plants?

Pokémon World = Earth.
>>
>>32904568
No, because types are approximate, and always have been.

It's like when people say that "Dark" is the "Dirty Fighting" type, and not actually related to darkness. It's not true, it captures both. They take whatever move or theme they want to add and give it to the most appropriate type.

"Mushroom" fits best under the common understanding of plant life, even if it's not actually even close to plant life, and so it simply gets put under Grass.
>>
>>32904568
What would be a better typing? Dark? Fairy? Ghost? Just Normal type?
>>
It's weird that fungi get lumped into the Grass type but whatever

You know what's weirder? The fact that it's called the Grasss type, and there still hasn't been a single Pokémon that IS completely grass. The closest thing we have is Gogoat, because it has Grass Pelt
>>
>>32905153
>make a bamboo Pokémon
>it isn't grass type
GG GF

Bug. Shuckle, the mold pokemon, is bug instead of grass. All the other fungus-based mons should be like this.

Are funguses even closely related to plants?

What are they?
>>
>>32905172
Eh I feel like bug is a weird thematic fit as well though. If mushrooms aren't plants, and that means they shouldn't be grass, then I think making them bug is weird.
>>
>>32904568
no, because i can differentiate from video games and reality, I'm also not an autist.
>>
>>32905172
>>32905175
Shuckle isn't a worm?
>>
>>32905184

Yeah, it helps that shuckle also seems to be partly based on a barnacle, seeing that it is covered by a hard shell, and is located near an ocean initially

Fungi are a separate in biology kingdom, distinct from plants, animals, and others like protists. Ironically enough, if you had to force them into one of plants/animals, it would be animals, as they are more close related to them than plants.

Classifying fungi as plants is just as accurate as saying bacteria are plants.
>>
>in pokémon bugs are big
>in real life bugs are small

does this bother anyone else?
>>
>>32904637
But the only Pokemon based on a species of grass is Celesteela.

>>

No, bugs used to big until the atmospheric composition changed.
>>
>>32904782
Why not make all Rock types Ground type then. Hell why not just have 8 types only since so many of them are all under the same theme?
>>
>Owls are birds
>They're not bird type
>>
>>32904764

You realize the old Linnaeus classification system existed on Earth right?
>>
>>32905172

>mushrooms aren't plants, lets change them to insects instead!
>>
>>32905211
Has anyone made a similar chart for Pokemon? I know Egg Groups are a thing, but it would be interesting to see how things could be divvied up.

In any case, Breloom is an animal (kangaroo) with a non animal (mushroom) growing as/out of its head. Now, neither of those are plants. However, you may as well complain that Bulbasaur should not be in with other plants because its base is a dinosaur. Likewise, see
Tropius
Sceptile
Parasect
Torterra
Gogoat, as previously mentioned

Their are comparatively few Grass Pokemon that are solely animated plants. Tangela comes to mind, Jumpluff, Sunflora, etc.

So there are lots of strange fusions already happening.
>>
>>32906483
>Breloom is an animal (kangaroo)

Breloom is a dinosaur idiot
>>
>>32906382
That thing has the word dragon in its fucking name you swoobat piece of shit. It's called a Komodo Dragon for fug sake
>>
GF isn't going to make a Fungus type just to be biologically accurate. Plus mushrooms used to be considered plants before scientists discovered they were completely different type of organism than plants and animals.
>>
>>32904568
Only because Amoonguss is stally enough as it is.
At least Shiinotic doesn't get it.
>>
>>32906511
Fruitflies aren't made of fruit, fire ants don't shoot fire, and king cobras aren't actually a part of royalty. Animal names are just names fuckwit
>>
Things that grow in or around grassy and/or arboreal areas. Fungi grow in grass, on trees, etc. Some of other stuff you said still causes one to scratch the ol' noggin, though.

Richard is an underage, special needs spic. You can tell him apart from other shitposters on this board:
>always types Pokémon
>broken English, random punctuations, random capitalization
>images of screenshots of NPC dialogue, Pokedex entries, or things that don't really contribute to the thread (like that picture of Earth)
>insistence that gameplay is non-canon, the Pokédex is never wrong, and Game Freak is god
>replying to waifu posts, sarcasm, memes, shitposts, etc. with deadpan sincerity because he doesn't understand
>>
>>32906483
>Bulbasaur should not be in with other plants because its base is a dinosaur
No it's not. Shitty 90s localization doesn't suddenly make it a dinosaur.
>>
>>32907150 Bulby's a synapsid

The Japanese word for mushroom (kinoko) literally means tree child.
>>
>>32904636
That is a very large lizard, not a dragon.
It does not fly
It does not breathe fire or some other elemental breath
It does not fight knights or kidnap maidens
There is nothing even remotely dragon about this
>>
>>32909788
In China the word for Train (like the things that go on train tracks) translates to "Iron Rooster". If pokemon were Chinese we probably would've had rooster evolve into a train.
>>
>>32904568
Many Bug types are not bugs, or even insects
Many Steel types are not made of metal
Giratina, Alolawak and Decidueye aren't dead but they're still Ghost type

Pokemon types don't make any sense, deal with it
>>
>>32904568
Makes more sense than GF slapping normal types to stuff like Regigigas, type null, and Arceus (the default form)
>>
>>32904568
Mushroom Pokémon learn spore, which is definately a feature for plants. If they aren't grass type, then they wouldn't learn spore.

Why does a dragon need to fly or breathe fire?
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0059:entry=draco1&highlight=draco
>>
>>32910359
Doesn't need to do all of those things, even doing one of them while having a vaguely reptilian body is enough. Sure, some dragons are too fat or have tiny wings, or are just fire breathing snakes.

And Draco isn't really a dragon, more like a serpent or some kind of demon. I think Draco was misnamed.
>>
>>32904598
Things that burn a lot and birds fuck up a lot too.
>>
>>32910577
Bugs?
>>
>>32904568
Breloom isn't an actual Mushroom. Just like how Exeggcute isn't an egg or how Klefki isn't an actual Key. Grass types aren't even real (true at least) plants. Most of them are either covered by plant/fungus stuff or have a mixture Plant and Animal cells. Every Pokemon is an animal due to being able to move freely and produce children the way they do.
>>
>>32910633
Yeah. Bugs=Grass type. It's why Parasect is part Grass.
>>
>>32910694
Because it's also part bug.

Where do you typically see mushrooms?
In the forest.
What's in the forest?
Plants!

Why is that so hard to follow?
