Priority Brave Bird is amazing.

Yes Talonflame can be fast without Gale Wings, but then it has to go Jolly instead of Adamant or Careful. And it can't outspeed boosted Pokémon. It also has to worry about competing priority.

Its speed + priority is exactly the problem.

If it had Reckless you could just use Aqua Jet or outspeed it. with Gale Wings you needed to both outspeed it AND have priority to not get hit with a Brave Bird.
