it's been already six years, we got no announcements of a new handheld. Meanwhile, we got Switch which happens to be ... handheld too. After they got burnt with WiiU failure, they must have thought the best idea was to release a home console people would have to buy thanks to their handheld success over Sony. And this way they only have to develop for a single console, rather than two.

Actually Reggie called it "a traditional find, battle, train type experience”, so there's no promise it's the next gen, and there's no promise it's even a core game. It could just as easily be Coliseum 3 for Gen 7 with that description.
