Every single region past the first three is shit, and those are only excused because of hardware limitations.

Every Pokemon story is either practically nonexistent (Gen 1/2) or is toddler-tier. BW is the only one that isn't pure shit.
Every Pokemon game has nonexistent difficulty if you know what you're doing.

The problems with Gen V stem from the Pokemon and the graphics:
The more Pokemon you have, the more bad designs you're going to have. These poor design choices are more so highlighted by the ugly display, compared to the one easier on the eyes in Gen IV.

Gen V was the worst for me not for the layout of the game, however, but because what matters most to me is the designs. The one thing that is carried on between generations no matter what is the designs, so every addition to the Dex is important since they become official Pokemon. From the starters to the Legendaries the Dex is rife with questionable design choices. Not to mention, a point I keep hearing going around is that Unova is great because it does the least appealing to Kanto, which is laughable since a lot of the Dex consists of Kanto mon reskins. And that's what bugs me even more about it. There are good designs in the Dex, no doubt, but another issue that strains the ability to embrace them is that a lot of Pokemon in Gen V evolve so late, making them largely inaccessible. People complain about Crabominable and Vikavolt being late when that characterized a good portion of the Unova Dex, to the point that an enemy Hydreigon was underlevel and that B2W2 had to offer a remedy in the form of early Braviary/Mandibuzz.
