Because it's a brand new story that's not a sequel because it works on a what-if scenario where no MC came to Alola for another year.

I'm definitely getting the feeling that this is something different. There's the push about the alternative story and the fact that there are two versions. GF are money hungry, but even they knew splitting the third versions up was a bad idea. There's something more to Ultra Sun and Moon that we just haven't seen yet.
