China has a lot of natural landmarks and historical sites that could make for a really great region to be based on, but this franchise is scared of controversy like nothing else and China's a magnet for that. Even if you made a completely innocuous tribute to Chinese landmarks you'd still have some group of people getting up in arms and ruin it for everyone. I mean, the Chinese Language option alone had some inane controversy over the names they chose for the franchise and the Pokemon.

So personally I don't think they're choose China over a "safer" choice like Germany or Italy. Or even choose another Japanese region if they really wanted to.

I'd love a China region though. Poke-Zhangjiajie, Poke-Moon Hill, Poke-Terracotta Warriors...there's so many ideas they could do with that.

Shame really. France has a lot of interesting history and mythology, which could've been easily implemented nicely and expanded in a third version for XY.
You have stuff like the Paris Catacombs, which could've been something like "The Lumiose Catacombs" where you go underground the city and encounter a labyrinth filled with ghost Pokemon.
