Gen 7 didn't have that much effort in it, so they had plenty of development time.
We might not getting a Gap Year at all unless Gen 8 or 9 only has a single set of games.
GameFreak's probably shooting to celebrate the 25th Anniversary with Gen 10, which would make a lot of sense for hitting two milestones at once.
