Switch games will be ports or spinoffs or something else. Of course there's going to be pokemon games on the new Nintendo console. Switch is only replacing the Wii U. When the 3DS' time is up it will be replaced by a new DS or a new handheld.

Like I said it could be a port or special edition of a game released initially on 3DS. New main games might see a release on Switch as well as 3DS but it isn't replacing the it so there's no reason for mainline games to be moved to Switch only if the 3DS isn't dead yet.

Someone posted on chinese boards some time before the official reveal that "Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon" would feature a new story in an alternate universe where the MC of SM doesn't move to Alola for another year, so the events of SM have already occurred without their presence one way or another. Maybe shit didn't go so smoothly for everyone without them there. Butterfly effect shit.

It possibly could've been a lucky guess, but it's the sort of thing what we've officially heard implies.

well, the 3ds isnt dead yet, but we dont know if it wont be dead when the game comes out (which will most likely happen in late 2018 or 2019)

also, even if its only one game, it still is still a mainline game for the switch (and why would they do that if they are going to release it on the 3ds anyways? i mean most pokemon players played the pokemon games before that game and would have a 3ds anyways)

My best guess is it would be an Switch version of a 3DS game or whatever handheld is out when gen 8 rolls around. GF releases the first games on the handheld and Switch but expanded and with better graphics on Switch. I guess the mainline games could be moving to Switch only next gen. I never expected SM to get a third game, much less two of them in a style similar to BW.
