I've said this a few other times, but I suspect that it was originally planned to be announced at E3's main presentation, but Nintendo decided it wanted to focus on Switch titles. TPCi decided it didn't want the new game just stuffed in as a treehouse announcement, so they simply announced it a week early. There is no extra news at E3 as what we saw WAS the original E3 footage.

E3 for them was pretty much a Switch event with some 3DS titles thrown in during the Treehouse stream. USM isn't the type of game that's worth having a demo for, so it just wasn't there. There were other 3DS games they didn't show at all too, so it's not like Pokemon was being ignored

Why would they waste there tome showing a game that's guartueed to sell.

It's not like mario or splatoon where there's new gameplay.

It's a 3rd version game of pokemon. You know what to expect.
