I read the OG post on Bulbagarden, and the leak claims that the story of USUM is a sort of "what if", where the protagonist moves to Alola a year later than they did in the original SM, meaning that the events of the original SM story took place without them being there.

The leak is basically claiming that the world of USUM makes use of the For Want of a Nail trope, where one small change in a story(in this case, delaying the arrival of the protag by a year) has a ripple effect, resulting in massive changes.

The best thing they could do imo would be to bring back the sevii islands from FRLG, it even makes sense kinda, iirc there was a ship headed for kanto in SM, maybe the sevii islands are between kanto and alola. They are a region that has not been accessible since the GBA era (can't think of many more), so I think it would be nice to go back there
