As for medals, I have most of my favorites still in Platinum (Electivire, Porygon Z, Gengar, Gyarados, Garchomp, and Magmortar are a few of mine with 10+ ribbons) and BW2. I don't like the idea of transferring everyone forward, I like to have a few favorites in Gen 3, 4, and 5 who I can use for taking on post game facilities when the mood for a replay hits me.

I did this with some shadow pokemon from XD back in the day. They have every possible Ribbon in gens 3-6 and I've been using them for over a decade. My original Swampert from a launch Sapphire, formerly shadow Arcanine, and my XD starter are the most notable.

However, Sun/Moon just really felt off to me and I've yet to actually transfer them to Gen. 7.
Just feels wrong to trap them there, I suppose?

I never finished Gold when I was a kid so in highschool when I got back into pokemon I decided to give it another shot considering that I knew a lot more about it. I got the starter that I had in my original run which was chikorita (which I now love with my heart and soul) and played the game like insane. I'm talking in the middle of class, at home, in the car, EVERYWHERE. My close friend got back into pokemon from me getting back into it and ended up interacting with me in my run. We traded and I got a slowking, which is now also one of my favorite pokemon because of that run. Looking back on it that had to be my favorite run of all time, and when I got to the end, the team that I started with ended up being the team that I defeated red with. Now since I actually wanted to keep the team, I decided to transfer it to my friend because I wanted to do a nuzlocke before transfering it up. I regret doing that so much. My friend DID keep them safe for me, but had started to bully me as well when he realized how easily vulnerable I was. Long story short my friendship with him ended and he probably still has that box with "[insert anon's name here]" on the box. Really a fucking shame too, I had the best name for that meganium.

I was a genwun kid so I never had the chance to transfer my original bros up from childhood. I was in middle school when RS came out and by then the mania magic was over and now I was just the "that kid" still playing pokemon. Didn't even get to keep my gen 3 bros either because I skipped gen iv on the cart when it first came out because no ds, and I think I had lost or sold my gba by this point or parents got rid of it without telling me because I didn't play it anymore and they liked to do that kind of thing.

I ruined Pokémon for myself for a while. Back in middle school, I was a mean, bitter, depressed little shit. I released most of my bros in Emerald in an episode of salt after I got whooped at the Battle Frontier a few times. They're immortalized in the Hall of Fame in their games, but it's not the same as traveling with them.

I also came to regret soft-resetting for comp natures/IVs because it felt like rejecting dozens of unique Pokémon. (Yet I've still never turned down an egg from the Day Care, ironically.)

No one ever stole my cartridge or deleted my file--all of my grief in these games is my fault alone. It all made me feel like shit because Pokémon came to feel like another chore, when it should have been escapism from the real world.

I'm a lot more appreciative of the Pokémon I have now. They get buried in ribbons and Poké Puffs/Beans like there's no tomorrow, even (especially) the ones that got SR'd. It's cathartic somehow.

This is my starter,my first game was gold but i couldn't complete it ,and diamod was the first game i actually owned

He is impish i know it is not the best nature but man ingame that nature helped him endure some really difficult fight, remember that ash's infernape vs electrivire fight, well that's what i imagined in my mind every time he won a difficult battle, i have visited every region and captured every legendary with this pokemon, actually now that i remember we still need to catch those ultrabeast in alola,

The only thing we couldn't beat was palmer's dragonite because he is a cheater, also because at the time my other 2 "strongest" pokemon were luxray and a shiny roserade that i didn't even realize was special until years later

i hope whenever those diamond and pearl remakes come out they for the love of god include a battle frontier ,nowdays infernape is hyper trained and has a better but kinda gimmicky moveset, i played the original ruby but only so i could get the regis and battle regigigas with infernape, later when i got omega ruby i decided to almost solo the entire game with infernape, it was a nice surprise to see infernape in the credits

At the very least i would like to see Palmer in the ultrasun battle tree

If the Diamond and pearl remakes don't have battle frontier then the shadow aipom i saved in oore will have to defeat Palmer

I kinda regret being so turned off from pokemon after Diamond/Pearl that I never bothered to buy a legitimate copy, stuck with emulation and couldn't transfer old shit to later gens without doing some jury-rigged way or injecting.

Though at least I managed to transfer everything one way or another from Platinum and onwards to actual carts of the Gen 6 games then to Moon and hyper trained the story teams and whatever else.

let me indulge in nostalgia too...started with Diamond as first game (played the neighbor's copy of gold and sapphire) picked piplup as starter because penguins man. Named him Aqua. Didn't know what he evolved into so I flipped out when I saw empoleon. He's travelled to every one of my games since then--SS, B, W2, X, AS. Not wanting to move him to Moon just yet but I think I might soon. He's the only one of my significant Pokémon who's made the jump from generations, so he's kinda special in that respect.

So happy this thread is still up, all of your stories have touched me. I'm in the process of hunting for and backing up my carts, and extracting my bros from the savefiles and transferring them upward, also leaving them in their original games.

Here's a more modern story of one of my pokebros. I'd like you all to meet a based virtual duck I dubbed 'space man" a few years ago.

I've been playing since gen 1, but I've never carried anyone over from another cart. Part of me thinks it's really cool to have a mon with you that long, but it also feels like taking them away from their home.

I've been playing Pokémon since 2006, and the only transferring I was able to do was LG to FR, and then over to Emerald. I blame me getting too bored and starting new files all the time and losing cartridges.

I traded off my rattata for a shiny zubat but I mostly just cared about the bellsprout. I put him on my platinum game, travelled with banana all through it. When black came out, I wanted to transfer banana to black, but sadly I lost the cartridge I had. Banana is gone forever, but bellsprout himself alongside victreebel will always hold a soft spot in my heart... I miss banana

Shit man, reminds me of my shiny Solosis that I got in Gen 5 from an emulated White that I later transfered to a legitimate copy of Black. The best part is that the IVs were really good on where it counts and a pretty good nature too. Served me well in both offline and online play.

I almost would've passed it up too because I initially didn't like its design, but god damn was I wrong when I gave it a chance, fucker became my favourite pokemon quickly. If I could only ever transfer one pokemon, that shiny Reuniclus would be it.

Yeah, I was really happy with him. I'd never used one before, so after I saw that it had an excellent nature I just had to give him a try. Loved it. And like I said, IVs were pretty great, too - low attack, low speed, high def, high HP, high Sp.Atk...only disappointing one was a mid-low Sp.Def, but that was made up for by being Sassy. Of course, I didn't learn the IVs until after I'd beaten the game, so that didn't factor into my appreciation for the fella.

So OP, did you Hyper Train him yet? If you need a gold bottle cap just ask.

One of the best things about the newest gen is Hyper training. I have a Milotic that I raised in Emerald 12 years ago, finally with maxed out IV's thanks to a gold bottle cap (and it even keeps the hidden power the same, so you can use whatever hidden power move with max stats). And EV training is incredibly easy now too, so its easy to take old pokemon and make them completely viable.

Cradily is really cool, I've never used one though. I think the next time I pick up Emerald I'll give one a go.

I'm considering transferring my Empoleon to Sun/Moon so that I can Hyper Train him and use him for the Battle Tree, but I don't feel comfortable transferring him again because I always feel that Sun/Moon doesn't have as much to offer as XY. Should I transfer him to Sun/Moon anyway?

Unfortunately I don't have any stories like this. Got Pokemon Gold as a present in 2000 or so, played it for a bit but then Pokemania ended and nobody cared anymore.

You could e.v train with Pelago while hunting for bottle caps.

You get a free bottle cap if you get a streak of 30 in the tree and return the next day btw.

This is my first ever Pokemon.
He was my starter in FireRed and he's been with me ever since. I know he's just data, but like >>32730235 said, he's meant more to me than that.
Pokemon has always been something that makes me happy, and my Charizard helps with that a lot. He's my oldest friend ringing in at almost 13 years old now and he's been with me through everything.
I love my Charizard and I always will. Thank you Game Freak, for allowing my friend to come with me through the generations.
