I read them as what they're abbreviating (RedGreenBlueYellow for example), except in certain situations where it's easy to say or something (ORAS, SM, RSE for some reason).

The DS line has always been marketed towards children, right? The Switch being marketed towards adults is a relatively new phenomena.
