One thing that always irked me was why Ghost wasn't Special and Dark wasn't physical.

What were the actually thinking when they did this?

And to answer the question: A lot of Pokemon would drop in usage, some Pokemon would rise in usage.

Weaviles STABS become irrelevant it's mostly good for spamming Return in PU now.

Some Pokemon like Alakazam would gain coverage through moves like the elemental punches, while Pokemon like Hitmonchan would lose a lot of coverage as elemental punches aren't physical
