>when you try to play a pokemon game made after the good design/shit design split
phys/spec split is the most overrated feature ever. People act as if older games are unplayable without it yet it's barely fucking noticeable in-game because you curbstomp everything anyway.
I never even noticed it when I first played through the series
but i enjoy running tauros/snorlax with hyper beam in gen 1/2/3
>>32643013
>overrated
Ah, yes. Because categorizing moves based on what they do instead of their types is such a crazy idea.
name one pokemon that was nerfed by the split
>>32643029
>moveset choosing back then
>can't just put any coverage move on a pokemon since it might have too low attack/special to use it
>moveset choosing now
>have high attack
>use ice punch
>have higher special attack
>use ice beam
the physical/special split ruined any moveset strategy
>>32643059
would you rather have Pokemon with shit STAB
>>32643059
>>moveset choosing now
>now
Your Attack and Special (Attack) and the opponent's Defense and Special (Defense) have always mattered.
>>32643064
if they were balanced around the fact that they had shit STAB, then yes
>tfw love ghost types
>tfw ghost was a physical type prior to the split
>tfw ghost types almost never had any reason to use ghost attacks because high special attack stat
>>32643059
bait
>>32643077
Kingler?
>>32643128
what about kingler?
yeah he couldn't use his water STAB, but back then he didn't need it. 130 attack with non-stab normal moves was enough back then
>>32643174
see that's the thing though, you couldn't just throw an ice move on kingler to deal with grass types since his special was so low, you HAD to rely on whatever limited physical moves you had which led to more strategy.
Now in the age of special/physical split you can just run ice punch and thunderclaw and have full coverage while still getting to take advantage of 130 Attack
>>32643059
You would have still put Earthquake on any physical mon back then, and Punches and Beams were still used by all Special Attackers that needed the coverage.
Don't kid yourself.
>>32643220
Except Kingler doesn't learn Ice Punch. Or any other physical Ice attack. At least use something possible for your argument, genwunner.
>>32643271
replace kingler with poliwrath and the argument works
>>32643248
at least there was more trade-offs and scenarios to think about than just blindly putting everything that compliments your STAB
>>32643079
I always loved my night shade misdreavus, but I'm still mad that for 3 gens the only ghost able to use shadow ball was banette.
>>32643029
And yet people still overrate and exaggerate the fuck out of it. Amazing isn't it?
>>32643056
Sceptile. easy
>>32643310
>for 3 gens the only ghost able to use shadow ball was banette.
in what fucking way is that true? even in R/S 4 ghost pokemon learn it by level up. even if you're talking about pure ghosts, misdreavus got it in gen IV.
I'm so fucking angry about this trivial comment.
>>32643056
Alakazam
>>32644216
He obviously meant use it properly. The ghost type with physical attack worth a damn Banete and maybe Shedinja
Use your head.
>>32643056
Agumon
>>32642983
>try and
>>32643059
>being forced to use shit moves on certain Pokemon brings more strategy
lmao
>>32644346
>tfw Juan literally has nothing to deal with Shedinja
>tfw a Fury Cutter Shedinja would literally rape him
I loved using that bug in Gen 3
>>32643005
you mean that split thats always been there?
>>32643056
Metal Skull Greymon.
>>32643059
Yes, because Snorlax, Pence, and friends: The Meta required SO much thinking when building teams.
>>32643220
It didn't created more strategy, it just stopped you from using Kingler. Using shitmons doesn't mean being good at strategy.
>>32643056
Dodrio
>>32646430
>Pence
was electric coverage really that essental?
>>32643220
>thunderclaw
u wot m8
>>32644480
>Luvdisc used Sweet Kiss
>Shedinja is confused!
>>32642983
Yeh Poor Gengar basically had no STAB's to work with due to shadowball running off his 60 base attack.
>>32643056
Typlosion, Amphoras, Regirock and calm mind Suciane
>>32647433
And yet, despite being dual psychical typed, it was still one of the best special attackers from Gen 1-3. Gen 4 onwards breath new life to Gengar, but it's not like he was Sneasal teir
