I really love how Unova dex to Kanto dex was a mirror to real-world parallel evolutions where unrelated species take up the same niche.
It is the first game that really grasped the same feeling of the unknown since Kanto because you literally don't know the whole dex. No comfort zones--and even the regional variants (i.e., bird, bat, etc) don't always play the same
