I haven't played RBY in a long time but i still play gold or crystal from time to time.
They still feel very different from HGSS on many levels, the artstyle is way different, the game mechanics have changed a lot (the phys/spe split is the more noticable, IMO) and I find it easier to get my monthly dose of nostalgia with the one I played first.

No. There is something about GSC that will always make it comfy to play. I enjoyed replaying Red too.

Gen 1 is so fucking broken it can be fun to mess with. Crystal has better encounter tables than HGSS, better aesthetics, better music, and no retarded chosen one plot with the Kimono Girls.
