Why is Kalos so empty? There's so much wasted potential

It's simple: Kalos has the worst region design.

it was rushed, just like the games after it

The game feels huge as it is, but I admit towards the end there's lots of wasted potential. Most likely because of time restrains but could also be because they'll expand the region in the inevitable sequel.

Rushed for the 20th Anniversary.

The region layout itself is actually really good, but they didn't use it to its full potential. Instead we got fake seasonal areas that makes no sense in the context of their locations, a big bunch of empty areas and loads of places that would've been good in theory but weren't expanded upon nearly enough to even be considered "decent".

I can get Johto but come one, Kalos is nowhere near being better than Sinnoh or Unova. Kalos literally has a perma-snow area right next to a warm summer sun city, and a perma-autumn area for some fucking reason. At least Sinnoh's snowy area made sense geographically.
