This. A lot of them either work perfect as regular evolutions already or just need slightly less spikiness and/or waviness design-wise to become so (I'm thinking Mega-Abamasnow and Mawile as two random examples).

I'd be fine with them retconning a lot of two-stage pokemon's megas to becoming regular evos and saving megas for those who evolve twice.

Actually it's the right opinion.

Banette has no place ever getting a Mega when it hadn't even maxed out it's evolution line yet. Isn't a obvious non-evo line and already has below average stat total compared to even most regular Pokemon.

The true kick in the balls is that MEvo changed shit all, it's still a slow/fragile mono ghost with a good attack stat, shitty STAB, no coverage moves, average BST that has to compete for a slot that is reserved for living gods.

A regular evo would've been a chance to completely rework the line so it isn't totally useless.
