This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Pokemon is the only gaming/television/card/manga franchise to receive its own board on 4chan.

Putting our differences like starterwars and injectors and gen-X-ers aside, is Pokemon the greatest (or biggest and most engrossing) video game of all time?
>>
>what is /mlp/
/vp/, just like /mlp/ was made to keep the autism out of other boards we are a containment board
>>
I wanna say yes? It's definetly still massive and with a lot merchandising for how old it is. Also definetly the money maker for Nintendo at this point, the old "3DS is a pokemon machine" is not without it's truths.

Definetly still popular on Japan at least because looking for fanart at least it's the 3rd biggest gaming name still being made.

However autistic we are, you know deep down that /mlp/ is 10x worse. To an extent, there is strategic discussion on /vp/, and the games are entertaining in their own right.

/mlp/ is nothing but dedicated degenerates jacking off to a cartoon meant for an even younger demographic than Pokemon. They have zero redeeming qualities.
>>
>>32563705
You forgot /mlp/ and while /jp/ technically is about more than touhou the sole reason it was created is to keep touhou out of /a/.
>>
the "Pokemon general" (which was basically wifi-general) was the first general on /v/
/vp/ was simply created before they came up with the idea of /vg/, that's the only reason why this board exists.
>>
>>32563705
You must remember that this is a containment board

This is true.

I should know, I used to lurk there
>>
>>32563789
Can you imagine the entire content of /vp/ compressed in a single thread in /vg/?
Shit would be insane.
>>
>>32563839
all boards are a containment board
>>
>>32563897
This is a containment board that spawned from another containment board inside a containment website
>>
>>32563919
>4chan is a containment website from the rest of the Internet
>the Internet is a containment net for introverts
>earth is a containment planet for weeaboos and redditors
>>
>>32563718
While the comparison is technically valid, it's not fair to compare the cesspool that's /mlp/ to /vp/.
/vp/ was created to keep both the Pokemon games out of /v/, the Pokemon anime out of /a/, and give the two communities their own space to reduce congestion on those two boards. That said, unlike a certain show, there's no global rule against Pokemon on other boards, and in fact /v/ has nice Pokemon threads every few days.
/vp/ is more akin to /jp/, which was created to keep Touhou and Visual Novels out of /a/ and to clear out some of the congestion on the board.

>Touhou out of /a/
But Touhou is a video game series, not a anime, I could imagine threads about the official manga every week/month in /a/, but the big mass would be towards /v/, or this was not true in the past?
>>
>>32563886
Of course you can't remove it anymore. Containment boards are a double edged sword -
They attract more posters from outside than they contain.
A more recent example would be /aco/. The various hentai boards have a lot more western art posted now, than pre /aco/.
>>
>>32563789
I thought /vp/ was made just because there were just so many gen 5 threads on /v/ and Black and White just came out. At least thats how I remember it
>>
>>32564026
maybe a bit of everything.
I remember /po/ getting spammed with posts like >thank you moot, finally we got a pokemon board
>>
>>32563886
Eh, not really.

The majority of new threads in /vp/ are just dumb shit.
>how would [stupid change] affect the meta
>It's [Pokemon] day! Post [Pokemon]
>[Game] is the best mainline game. Prove me wrong.

It's all pointless, stupid repost shit. You can check /vp/ once a month and miss nothing new. The only reason the board still exists is because new game season.
>>
>>32563705
Are you 16? Because you sound stupid as fuck
>>
>>32563705

Pokémon is up there, but you have to weight the Pokémon fan base against other fan bases based on autism, which results in a larger internet pressence. There are songs/tv shows/books that sell more, but those fan bases don't spend all of their time on 4chan
>>
>>32563726
>definetly

Phew there now I feel better about myself

Pokemon generals were by far the most popular threads on /v/ in 2009-2010.
The threads mostly revolved around WiFi and posting pokegirl porn, and like all other generals today they were pretty much cancer, since they added nothing to the board culture, and there were always at least 5 generals floating around since they hit the bump limit in an hour or so and without a catalog new threads got made while the others were still alive.
The final straw was the black and white announcement, that threatened to expand this cancer general even further. In an attempt to solve this, moot created /vp/ as a containment board for all things Pokemon.
/vp/ at the start was a really shitty place, 10 pages of nothing but pokegirl threads (no real moderation and you used to be able to post nsfw on blue boards without much fear of being banned for it) and spam (before captcha was introduced all boards on 4chan suffered from spam, with slow boards being the biggest casualties).
It wasn't until /vp/ actually got moderation to get rid of nsfw when it actually evolved into a place you can talk about Pokemon in (imho /vp/ is currently the best place to talk about pokemon; not completely filled with kids and not autistic and closed to new people like most old established forums).

No, I'm 73.
>>

Agree with that last paragraph. The Pokemon subreddit is in its own way more autistic than we are. Nothing but the same self-promoting drawfaggots who post the repetitive "le draw one Pokemon per day! Here's bulbasaur ;)" with absolutely no self-awareness as to how unoriginal they all are. Granted, a lot of them are probably just nostalgic and couldn't give a shit about the competitive / discussable aspects of the games, but the mods there recently started a no-art-on-weekends rule so I suspect the artfags secretly piss off many more people than is let on.

If you'll allow me to interject, there is a touhou anime, it's not officially made - a fanmade one, giving blessing by the creator. It's actually really well made for a fan made anime, although I think it's animators are pro's who do that on free time.
