Volcarona seems to be mentioned here as people's favorite Pokemon a lot nowadays. (Including myself) I was wondering for what reasons and here's the reasons I can think of:
>has a very well liked design to the point where it's not uncommon for people who talk about hating gen 5 designs to specifically exclude it
>is new enough that most people who just played the first few games won't know about it, but is old enough that it's not talked about much
>strong, but just not strong enough to be OU, meaning it's usable but not known as cancer like genies and many others are
>not very gimmicky in how it's obtained or used, but is still different enough to stand out
>non-starter Fire-types are pretty rare, and Bug-types seem to be pretty well-liked here
>has the unusual combination of Flame Body and Fly, meaning it's good for people who breed Pokemon for whatever reasons
>makes sense for those kinds of people to be more common on a Pokemon board
Any other reasons?

Gen 5 has some of my favourite designs. Samurott, Archeops, Scolipede, Gigalith, Eelektross, Scrafty, Volcarona, Durant, Krookodile, Lilligant, Crustle, Whimsicott, Zebstrika, Golurk, Braviary, Hydreigon, Vanilluxe, Klinklang (the last two, yes really), I mean holy shit.

I was bummed out by how few Gen 5 Pokemon were in Sun and Moon, and half of them are version exclusives to each other as well.
