I personally think it's going to happen, but it's more of a question of when. They're probably saving it up for when the series hits a bit of a decline where a Kanto game will help renew interest and boost sales up a bit. I'd rather have Sinnoh remakes personally.

I dislike Kanto and most Kanto Pokemon but I'm honestly hopeful for it to be remade. It'd be nice to see the region spruced up a bit so it's not so boring, as well as some moveset changes to some others to make them more interesting. That and it's better than shoving parts of it into new games like they did with XY.
While I hope they don't do the forced Kanto dex shit from FRLG where you couldn't evolve Blissey and shit, I'm absolutely sure they will because muh 151 Pokedex.

Thats kinda why i'd hope they focus more on the international police/looker plot for kanto(hell even have assignments that take you to different towns in other regions to handle the ultra beasts)

Instead of travelling thru kanto like the older games you roped into some international conspiracy and gain ranks based on how many missions you succeeded ,rather than gym badges

Do a world of warcraft cataclysm where an earth-shattering kaboom fucks up the entire region and the map is different as a result and new pokemon where drawn to the 'faller energy''
