Too bad, I guess. He was pretty good. The starters he made were always the most popular of their region for a reason. His human art was also cute and nicely detailed.

The hate for "squirrel face" is overblown as fuck. His human design were much better than the cardboard face Sugimori drew. Not only that, everyone blames Ohmura for all of the teeth, even though Sugimori makes those too.

Faces were consistently the worst part of any Sugimori art. He used to make them too big, wide, and triangular. And people ate that shit up. They called "unique" and "charming", but it was fucking weird and shit. Ohmura was way better with faces. The "teeth" fit some designs, like Bianca and Skyla, and didn't fit others as much. The hate for it is overblown as fuck.

Good. Modern Pokémon art is very generic and "safe". It lost it's charm to me. The Pokémon themselves are alright but the people are the most generic anime characters I've ever seen.
I've been recently buying the old RGBY volumes of Pokémon Adventure and the art has a lot more personality.

I guess it makes sense, they are focusing a lot more on children now that smartphones are a real competition (making the game easier is an obvious result from this), I just wish Ken Sugimori would go back to his watercolor days (but with his current abilities, since the proportions of his early art were kinda off).

Actually the truth is far more coincidental, as IIRC in an interview Masuda(I think) states the reason there been less new Pokemon for the past 2 gens, is because they're cranking out the games faster. Apparently the number of new Pokemon depends on how long they work on the new games.

People like to generalize GF's current faces and call them generic, but they are really varied and unique. From Nanu to Sun, Kiawe to Hau, Gladion to Guzma. All are different and fit the character perfectly. Same for girls. Lillie and Mallow, Lana and Acerola, Kahili and Lusamine, almost none of them are alike, and they all do their job perfectly.
