Come on guys, remember when Nuzlocke used to have to make new threads because they maxed out on posts? I miss that shit.

I have never done a nuzlocke run, but I've been thinking about replaying gen 5. Maybe I'll try a Black nuzlocke.

I've only done a regular run through of Black once,but I wouldn't suggest a Nuzlocke of it unless you've done a couple before. Looking at maps n shit, unless I missed something, you'll only have 3 Pokemon for the first gym battle.

For me, having a variety is the fun part, but if you can deal with that, go for it.

I just beat Estaban(Brock), who was a Fighting type leader. His level 14 Machoke gave my Ralts a problem, but it wasn't awful. No losses.

On my way up from Viridian, I did lose Lowett,I thought I had the fight. 3x Sand Attacks and Bide still hit. It was a stupid risk, and I deserved to lose for taking it.

On my way to Mt. Moon, I'll post an update once I'm through Mt. Moon, then again before my fight with the second gym leader..

I'm doing a shitmon run in Black 2(using only pokemon in the lowest tier of that generation, with exceptions such as no slaking, legendaries or other pokemon that can otherwise cheese an ingame playthrough easily), with no grinding and no items in battle.
I hit a roadblock and his name is Clay. Being 8-10 levels lower with no definite way to beat an Excadrill is tough.

Here's the last run I did. Starting a new one now for Moon.

I'm nuzlocking Leaf Green. Its my 4th nuzlocke; I've been doing the games in order.

I just beat Giovanni in the Rocket Hideout. My team so far is Venusaur, Gyarados, Jolteon, Sandslash and Pidgeotto. Only one death so far, a Spearow in Mt. Moon.

Mt. Moon has different Pokemon on each floor when shuffled (i.e. what zubats slot is on the 1st floor will be different than what it is on the 3rd). Should these be two different catches or one? I ask because of Mt. Coronet, which people consider a different place on each return.

You say that, but some of XY's trainers are surprisingly tough, especially the Black Belts. Nearly all of them have coverage. Also the variety can go against you in places where you get a shitmon instead of something awesome. That happens more in XY than any other game.

I've tried to do a randomized Black nuzlocke 3 or 4 times now. I've been able to do the older games, but Black keeps killing me. The last run felt like it would be successful because I had a pretty solid team, until I got to Chargestone cave. Chargestone cave was absolutely brutal, and I lost about 3 or 4 pokemon in that cave alone. When I got out of it, there were hardly any areas left for me to catch and repair my team, so Mistralton gym totally wiped me out.
If you nuzlocke black, watch out for areas like that. Like >>32436320 said, there's some areas where you don't get a chance to catch many new pokemon, so if your team isn't already solid, you're probably gonna get wrecked.

Do a randomized Platinum if you want to have some fun, randomized Emerald if you just want to play, or Firered if you want a grinding challenge.

SM is decently tough thanks to its Totem battles and a brutal level curve following Ula'ula, but like with Gen 6, Amie/EXP Share removes a lot of its bite.

I am so happy that /nuzgen/ is back! Weirdly enough, I've been thinking recently of doing the whole 'nuzlocke through the ages' thing (since the only nuzlockes I've ever fully completed were really disjointed and uninteresting) and I can't think of a better crowd to share it with than /nuzgen/

Anyway, I'm gonna let my post number decide my starter for Red: evens I choose Squirtle, odds I choose Bulbasaur. Not even gonna consider Charmander line in gen 1 on account of how shit they are (NO FLY SERIOUSLY?!)

It's a difficulty hack but the level curve works and the gym order is linear in Johto to allow for a balanced level curve. Johto E4 maxes at 60 with Red being only a little bit above normal levels but you're actually matching his level by the time you finish Kanto

I shuffle the TMs in my games for shits and giggles, it's funny to me when I receive Tackle or Worry Seed as a TM. However, I've actually receivrd a GOOD move, Secret Sword.

Usually I don't care, because so what if I teach my Caterpie Water Gun, it'll be irrelevant eventually, but Sacred Sword will always be good.

i've got a moral question for the group:

doing a heartgold nuzlocke
about to fight the dragon woman's gym
my dudes are about 15 levels away from where they should be to not get wiped during the elite 4

the highest levels i can grind at right now are full of self-destructing assholes so, in order to safely grind, i'm forced to use an area with shittier mons farther back and it's taking forever

Is it against the spirit of the nuzlocke to use a cheat to up my experience per battle?
I'm going to be grinding in a safe place cause it's a nuzlocke, and if i do it without a cheat it's going to take hours.
But I'm not going to risk losing something important just to get more experience points.

so in this instant, would it be wrong to just speed up that process just to get to a competitive level?

this wouldn't be a problem if the leveling at this point in the game wasn't so terribly designed.

As promised, here's my update. I'm going to try to get everyone to level 19 before taking on the gym leader. Currently clearing out the exterior of Pinwheel Forest; I didn't realize the route kept going down, so I trained in the grass up to these levels. Still debating on whether or not to teach Quid Sacred Sword.

I haven't been too spooked by any trainers yet, things are going pretty smooth. Cilian gave me some trouble just because Work Up did so much extra damage. Learned my lesson.

Download that, here's a picture of what it will look like.

You select 'Open Rom' and look for the file you want to randomize. You don't need to make a copy of it, when you save it saves a new one (as long as you give it a new name). There's a lot of things you can change.

Personally, for a nuzlocke, I select/change:

1. Standardize EXP Curves, Update Base Stats, Change Impossible Evos
2. Random (basic Pokemon with 2 evolutions), random items and ban bad items if the game allows starters to hold items, Random(Legendary <-> etc) for Static, Randomize both Request&Given Pokemon
3. Update Moves
4. No change
5. Area 1-to-1 Mapping, Similar Strength, Randomize Held Items, Ban bad items, Set min catch rate to 2
6. Random TM, TM/Levelup sanity, Force 60% (you still get a fair amount of Worry Seeds and Water Gun TM's), Move Tutors to 100% (old gens only have a few, they're 1 time use, why waste them), Random (prefer same type)
7. Randomize, Ban bad items (In my Black rando, I currently have the Dialga item and 2 Genesect drives, so banning bad items doesn't mean banning unusable items)
8. This changes by gen

Oh. It was something snuck up on when I entered Route 104. You know how they have a chance of having egg moves. I guess the game only allows wild Taillow on that route to have 3 moves thus Peck was bumped off and replaced with Supersonic. Really weird. I've trained it up now though and got Quick Attack.

Just started a memory link Nuzlocke on Black 2 so I can get the Challenge Mode key for a White 2 Challenge Mode Nuzlocke.
Unfortunately, it hasn't been going well at all. Both my Patrat and Pidove were killed off immediately by a constant barrage of 5hit doubleslaps from Audino, and I critical tackle KO'd the Riolu I encountered in Flocessy Ranch and the Virbank Complex Growlithe used Roar, so I'm stuck with soloing Virbank Gym with just Dewey, my Dewott. I have faith in him, though.

The only difficult parts of XY are all completey optional like the Furfrou fuckers and the deathhall known as Reflection Cave (you can avoid all but like two trainers in there, and they're the easiest ones to fight) Everything else is a cakewalk or trivalized because of the sheer amount of options you have.

Probably should have clarified that i nuzlocked all of the games blind (besides a few of the earlier gens before I knew about nuzlocking), which probably explains why I rank x and y so highly in terms of difficulty. There's a lot of encounters that can just fuck your shit up unless you know they're coming.
Somebody earlier on said it best, the trainers and random encounters are the main difficulty in those games. The gym battles to a lesser extent, which is usually were the main difficulty in every other game comes from.

Any time I see a trainer with 3 pokeballs and a Petilil my balls shoot up into my body. Prior to getting the Shroomish, Water types did that too. I'm going into this blind, and I only know gym types. It's just not being able to cover Water/Grass types, which have been unrelentingly common, that has been making me not want to progress in fear of killing someone.

No, I Nuzlocke gen 3 more than anything else, so most of my knowledge is about anything from gen 1-3. I've never played anything past gen 4, so I don't know shit about shit with gen 5 mons, and not too much about gen 4 mons other than the readily available ones in Pearl (like Purugly and Luxray, but not Skuntank and Magmortar). Which is why I'm playing black in the first place, because I know it's good and I need to learn more about it.
