Space themed pokemon should have their own typing or at least dark type or void type. Psychic is more like mystical and mysterious not really cosmic related.

Yeah that could it be a good material for a new type. Cosmic-type sounds good.

They could change Cosmic power, Doom desire, Wish, Moonlight, Morning sun, Gravity, Hyperspace hole, Prismatic laser and Lunar dance into Cosmic moves.

Change Unown, Deoxys, Cosmog, Cosmoem and Necrozma to pure cosmic. (except necrozma is cosmic/rock)

Add cosmic type to the typing of Clefairy, Clefable, Creselia, Elgyem and Beheeyem.

And change Psychic for Cosmic in the typing of Hoopa (both forms), Solgaleo, Lunala, Lunatone, Solrock and Jirachi.

They could resist Dark, Fairy and Ice, and be weak for Dragon and Steel.

Their moves could be supereffctive on Earth, Rock and Fairy pokemon, and not very effective on Psychic and Dragon

Balance reasons probably. Bug/Water was seen as a type that cucks Grass and Fire on super effectivity, so they probably thought it too powerful and Bug is often an earlygame typing that wasn't given a chance to shine in higher statdom until Gen 5.

Isopods are hard not to consider insects, where as people who eat crabs, shrimp and lobster are put off at the idea they're related to any kind of insect. So there could also be that.
