They buffed it because when the Fairy types came in, Dragon and Fighting types were already OP so it took them down a notch, yet Dark just outright suffered, so they gave them compensation in the form of mechanics buffs. Bugs got their compensation in the form of Bug mons actually being more powerful, e.g. Gen VI Mega Bugs, UBs.

Ice doesn't have an Alola-native specialist. Neither does Psychic (Dexio is from Kalos and Faba is from another region where Aether and Lillie are from), but nobody seems to point this out.
