I think my problem with Ohmura's style is his anatomy and faces. A lot of anime characters tend to have the same or similar faces, but it's extremely noticeable with Ohmura, as they all have very similar expressions. It's especially noticeable with the female cast. (May, Flannery, Shauna, XY Lass, Viola, Korrina and Bianca for example all use the same expression.) In terms of anatomy, a lot of the characters tend to be disproportionate, or too thin in certain areas. For example, Serena's waist is even thinner than her thighs, and her arms and neck are also twiglike.

Overall, I think Pokemon's human and monster designs are pretty unique, but Ohmura's artstyle didn't do it much justice.

The Oras one, redesign wich i love. Dynamic pose with a hot outfit, make's she even more fuggable than before. Also she hasn't got those Ohmuras buck teeth, the teeths in this case are pretty invisible and less prominent.
Megumi Mizutani probably will be the next Sugimori, and i love her style, i think that a big part of the Oras characters were redesigned or designed by she.

I will only say that the style works for some things, but it didn't need to be plastered over as many things as it did. He'll probably do fine elsewhere.

That's such a GREAT news.

Ohmura totally ruined the artworks of every 7th Gen Pokémon. He even put that horrible tooth on a Pokémon (Brionne), making it look like a Shauna-fursona.

His outlines are bold, black and too accurate, the colors are incredibly bright and the shadowing almost inesistent.

I also really hate how he draws the lights on hair and fur: simple spots.

He ruined so many artworks (of Pokémon with a good design) also with very dumb, boring and bad drawn poses (eg. Yungoos, Gumshoos, Primarina, Mareanie, Salazzle, and so on).

I want Sugimori back, and I wish he could redraw the entire Gen 7 artworks because they're really ugly and out of place (aside from the Alola formes, that he actually drew).
But this will never happen unfortunately. Hope he'll come back in the 8th Gen though.

Let's be real, the only thing that kept anyone coming back was the new features and new pokemon. At it's core, the old wasn't great, either. I will admit, though, things didn't really change in that matter. However, the capacity for getting a better story one day was there. It was just horrendously misled. Still there was the idea that things could be changed. I still have a small bit of hope that the true potential of this can be realized. As long as they even remain a bit rooted in their old ways, I know that can't happen, though. We will always have pointless faffing about and villains that have nothing to do with what we're doing.
