Fine, then pirate the English fan-translated 3DS version of Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland if you must be a thieving scoundrel. The games had virtually no replayability besides glitches and small post-game areas (Cerulean Cave, Mt. Silver) until the first battle facility came along in Crystal. What they mean by replayability is battle facilities, and to me and most players RNG fuckery involved is not fun. Endless replayability is a meme.

I don't really care about these games having replayability so long as I can spend 80-100 hours on the main story/side areas/post-game and have a good time. I tend to take my sweet time with the main story anyway (didn't beet SM until well into December despite buying at launch), so I don't think I'm asking for the whole world here. Sadly SM has maybe 40 hours of gameplay in it, and that's if you really pad it out. The online "features", Pokepelago, and Battle Tree just don't interest me, and they haven't since the series introduced them fully in gens 3-4.

The only time I ever played through a battle facility in its entirety (and came back to it after) was the one in Colosseum, and that's because:

a) the doubles system made battling inherently more strategic and fun in that game, and
b) I wanted multiple copies of MATTLE Ho-Oh

I will just add that if the battle facilities actually gave decent prizes, like rare or unobtainable Legendary Pokémon like it did in Colosseum and not just "X item you need for competitive play that used to be easier to obtain", then I might bother with them more. Getting Ho-Oh when it was event only at the time made you feel like a badass and was actually a decent reward. Heck even Stadiums 1 and 2 had better rewards than the modern games (Surfing Pikachu and Earthquake Gligar).

I spend most of my time breeding and training new pokemon after I beat the game. Sometimes I create new teams for new playthroughs though Sun/Moon doesn't really lend itself to re-plays as much as the other games did.

I try to complete the Pokédex, but the lack of a national dex with a regional dex that's smaller than previous installments killed a good part of that.
