There is not a single Alolan Pokemon which surpasses its Kanto predecessor. Not in form. Not in design. Not in viability. And, most importantly, not in authenticity. I would also make it known, that however unimportant, the most outrageously the two forms differ in is creativity.

Initially I disliked wholeheartedly the idea of megas. Now, they're not only welcome, but one has completely taken me. The best I can say for megas, and their inherent advantage over any Alolan form is that they do not impede on the originals.

Megas will fade in visibility and importance

Part of me thinks it was their intention to plug stuff into the first gen that wasn't there before in order to make up for the fact that certain types were not there. Bugger if I know what the purpose of making Raichu part psychic was, though, other than it became more awesome than it was. That being said, the originals are not going anywhere, but I'm more interested in what they're going to do with this idea now that they have it. They have the potential for loads of variant forms, but something tells me they're going to can it just like they did the others, simply because it would take too much effort that they would rather put into new pokemon.
