Fungi are genetically closer to animals than they are to plants. Still, Grass works fine for mushrooms because they have similar battle properties. (I assume they're flammable, weak to cold, etc.) Besides Grass doesn't literally mean "grass", the only pokémon that is literally grass is Oddish. It's the "Nature" type.

>>32353701
Spiders aren't insects, but they ARE bugs, as are scorpions. Bug is just a common non-scientific word for creepy-crawlies. Like how 'bunny' is just a cutesy name for a rabbit, rather than an actual scientific name for a baby rabbit.

>serpentine
Serpents were often associated with dragons in western European mythologies, in part due to all the sea serpent myths. This is why Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter is named 'Draco', meaning dragon: because he's a Slytherin, and dragons and snakes are connected somewhat in general folklore. Oriental dragons are also notably serpentine.

>reptilian or avian Pokemon
If it's a reptile as well as a Dragon type, I think we can give the benefit of the doubt that it IS a dragon, however it may look.
I don't know what you're smoking that you think any bird pokémon besides Altaria is a Dragon type, but Altaria is based on a Peng which is a mythical dragonish bird.

Most other Dragon types have that type because of a pun, or the animal/plant they're based on has "dragon" in the name. Kingdra and Dragalge are Dragon types because seahorses are called water dragons in Asia, Flygon is one because antlion adults are nicknamed "sand dragons", and Yanmega isn't one because they aren't called "dragonflies" in Japanese.

>Fungi are genetically closer to animals than they are to plants.
You mean like Starfish and Coral and other stuff? I highly doubt that a Cheeta or Human is genetically closer to Mushroom than a bush or something.
>>
>Feline pokemon
>Normal Type
Cat Type when?

It might seem weird but basically what this means is that the cells that gave origin to plants separated themselves before the cells that gave origin to animals and fungi did.

Fungi's ancestors are closer to animals' ancestors. Fungi even work at a biochemical level a lot more similarly to animals than plants, even if complex animals like elephants or shit look entirely different.
>>
>>32353850
Well it depends on what you mean by "closer to" to be honest. People always love to spout how chimps and us share a whopping 98% of DNA, but then you learn humans also share about 70% of DNA with slugs and 50% with bananas, and it becomes less significant.

What we should be saying is that the common ancestor of humans and mushrooms, whatever that was, is far closer genetically to humans than to plants. Animals just wound up taking a completely different path. Fungi and plants really aren't similar past a surface level at all. It's an entirely separate KINGDOM of life.

Seriously though, where is the crab type
>>
>>32353528
Fungi oftentimes grow in grassy areas.
>>
>>32353528
you'd think if anything they'd be poison types with heavy access to grass moves
>>
>>32353825
Oddish is a weed. Celesteela is the only Pokemon based on actual member of the grass family (bamboo).
