The animated series is fine. People are either taking strong exception to S/M's animation style despite its writing being far more character driven than before and the 20th Anniversary movie because it didn't suck off their childhood.

Barring that, the only real issue MIGHT be the games and that's largely up for debate. It's possible GameFreak is wasting the series' potential but it's not like Masuda doesn't have a point about how kids have other shit to do and having too much time to invest in the games is what they're trying to avoid.

You grew up expecting the series to grow with you but really it's just constantly trying to refresh for new faces and you have to accept that.

the anime has been shifting directions since the original series ended. With the Advanced seasons there was less focus on gym battles in favor of May's contest battles to pad things out better. Then they tried getting more serious during the DP series before trying a soft reboot with Best Wishes, immediately after they shifted to be more action oriented before going in a more character driven direction.

If you don't like the anime all you have to do is wait a bit and it'll change on it's own.

The only thing that bugs me right now are the games

Gen 6 was flawed, quite a lot actually but it still felt like Pokemon games, i thought GF just needed time to get used to 3D and 3DS.

Sadly Gen 7 is even worse. I havent touched the game since late December and i dont want to. This never happened to me with main games. I tried to watch a lets play of Sun (i got Moon) but it was just so boring. SM feels more like watching lots of really long cutscenes with subpar, badly written story full of plotholes rather than playing a game. I like the new Pokemon but the game just doesnt offer much gameplay. I know how it sounds but thats how it is

I don't get Game Freak removing trainer rematches. That was a staple since fucking gen 2, do they really want to pander to the genwunners THAT MUCH? ORAS gets a lot of shit but at least that game had rematches, O-rings, and Blissey secret basses to make raising Pokemon faster. SM was really rough around the edges and needs a third game badly to fix everything.

God, I love Pokemon so much. I hope the current devs get culled soon and we get a full overhaul/reboot. I can't stand this suffering. We deserve better.

Pokemon isnt dead and never was even close to dying but the games changed a lot after gen 5. Gen 6 felt unbalanced and unfinished but it wasnt untill gen 7 when you can really see the form over substance. Sure, the graphics look great but the gameplay feels dead. Not to mention that the world in game feels halfcooked and empty.

From Digimon to too many additions to already established lines, to pretentious and nonsensical plotlines and uninteresting mons, to TOO EASY, and now, it is difficult to pinpoint what the argument is anymore, but it is there. What the feelings are for this gen right now doesn't matter. They will be continually retconned until no one knows the truth anymore.
