Even without the prospect of DP remakes, those two were (and in Lucario's case, still are) probably the most obnoxiously shilled pokemon ever next to Pikachu and Charizard regardless. It makes sense they'd be shoehorned into a 20th anniversary movie.

I grew up during Gen 4 but I can't really remember Piplup shilling aside from the Anime and some stuffed animals in the mall vending machines. I remember more Chimchar/Infernape merchandise than Piplup
