Yes and no. Here's a reddit post comparing the matchups of popular grass/flying figures against Deoxys:

The issue is that even without respinning, both Deoxys and Reuniclus are still extremely strong figures at the very right end of the curve for their MP, so they're still going to be used until they're either directly nerfed or the game creeps past them.
All Tropical Energy and the rest of this patch has done is change them from being objectively overpowered and statistically unbeatable, to simply being the best figures in the game.

Against everything else it's just a 2mp mon with a 50% purple/blue.

And even against Deoxys teams, you will never really fight Deoxys A with it, because if you start the fight you'll just end up against Deoxys S anyway.

The problem with Deoxys team is the plate, you're basically fighting against three mons who have huge attack, good defenses and can have 3mp. The only surefire way to kill them is a 131+ gold attack.

They should make so the plate can only let you switch 5 times per duel, after that the game should be more maneageable.
5 times should be enough to not make a whale mad since you can still easily win if you play properly but at least it gives a chance to good players.

like you said it's not safe to attack them at all unless you have someone with a 131+ gold attack, so unless you have some pokemon with huge purples or mew, it's gonna be really hard to waste those 5 switches.
they need to make dark teams more viable, dark energy has so far gave me some pretty good results, the only problem is that more than often i don't have the time to set up a counter to Deo/reu before they force me to block them or lose.

The problem with this game format is that single counters can't work for the meta, this is more or less a card game, and a card game where there's an absolute top tier deck that eventually will be only be beaten by a new deck is fucking shit.
This game should have been a plain casual gimmicky fest in my opinion, releasing pokèmon like Trevenant or other tech pokémon, so the game becomes and actual strategy game where positioning matters, and not a "I'm going towards your goal with my 130 damage figure, if you stop me then I'll go with my 100+120 respinning figure" shitfest.

So guys, I haven't been playing for a whole long while, and I don't have many EX

I've got Dragonite and Groudon from the gyms, Charizard, Blastoise, Greninja, Empoleon, Ho-oh, Zygarde, and Xerneas. Is it worth it to spend more on sexpacks to fill out my EXs, or should I go for quads to try and get the good gym figs?

$8 is pretty expensive for a mobile game. I remember back when Farmville and Cityville were things, just $1 could get you a lot of things. In this game you get literally nothing. I know things have changed since F2P became the dominant mobile game strategy but still.

Synergy counts loads in general. I have lotsa EXs but I play full evo lines with teams that have 2 legendaries tops. Funner that way for myself and my opponent, IMO.

Greninja was ok, good even in manaphy teams when the game was starting, but then mew came and it was just much more reliable.
Now thanks to dark energy, greninja once more has come back as a useful figure, made to counter deu/reu decks, since it can't die, so you can throw over and over again against a deu/reu with high chances of killing it or any other deu/reu connected to it thanks to the special ability of it's water shuriken.

I got both sceptile and verizion, but i really wanted trevenant, it's pretty cool, since it's ability let's you abuse it's purple, by forcing whoever you fight to go to sleep and get out of your way, it also can let other grass pokemon pass through it, it's gonna be pretty fun to use in the him, since it's only big flaw is that it has only 1 MP

Poison synergy is mad crazy

Will Weezing be good in the gym or is that just wishful thinking? I've gotten two of them and two Koffing from timed boosters, but I'm kind of doubtful they're worth a whole lot. Sludge bomb is really not that great, even with the +20 damage and (theoretically) an evo boost, poison isn't that great of a strategy unless you have all the pieces (especially Venusaur and Crobat) which I don't.

From what I've seen in featured duels and >reddit, Poison is an extremely strong archtype right now.

Most of the teams I've seen have Venusaur, Umbreon, Weezing, Ho-oh, Crobat/Mew, and then one extra figure, usually Zapdos.

Is Phantump worth having with the Trevenant evolution? I pretty much always lose against full Deoxys teams, but I'm not sure having Phantump would increase my chances of winning that much unless I have other cosmo energy counters.
My current team is Natu, Magmar, Gothorita (these three with evolutions attatched), Deoxys-A (cLvl2) and Shuppet. The 6th slot is basically free so I can add Phantump if it's good enough, but I also got Greninja, Virizion and Petilil today so one of those might be more valuable than Phantump or one of my current team members.

Skorupi is a decent light Deo counter since it confuses all of them upon battle, I'd say it's even a potentially better counter than Phantump.

Petilil is also a pretty good hard counter to Deo-A specifically.

What rank are you though? Your team makes it seem like you've just started (this isn't a criticism - most people start out with weaker teams until they can start pulling the strong shit) so I'm a little surprised you're fighting Deoxys. Shuppet is pretty good at playing around them by getting surrounds or just for lategame rush purposes, but obviously this will only work on dumber Deoxys players.

I've been playing since launch, and while my highest rank has been 2585 (I don't know what the fuck happened, might have been when I was running 2 Deoxys-As) I'm currently sitting at 2268.
My deck works surprisingly well: I can evolve my dudes very easily, beat Reuiniclus/birds most the time as well as beating other Deoxys-As with mine as it's clvl2. I've done a lot of testing with the EXs I have, but I still manage to end up winning more games with Xatu Teleport and Gothitelle Squared Attack shenanigans. It's just cosmo energy teams that I have almost no chance against. I'm just not sure how to get over the cosmo energy switcharoo bullshit; Phantump requires so much setup. I've mainly just been evolving Magmar and then praying for Flame Gun.

Dude you're probably going to trigger the fuck out of some people in here having a case of good EXs (Virizion, Greninja, Magmortar, Lucario arguably solo Reshiram and Blastoise) and not using them. Cheese wins are cool but you'd probably mitigate a lot of the variance on your end if you used a stronger deck.

That's more of an aside though. As for dealing with Deoxys teams, Lucario is decent-ish against Deo-A, and Greninja is somewhat useful against them as well since it can threaten Deo-D, and somewhat threaten the other two (some games you'll have to fight the Deo-A until it rolls slip, and Gren's shuriken can punish for that somewhat. You could also try out the Dark Energy plate if you managed to pull a decent 2nd Dark type like Yveltal or Umbreon. Or you could just use Skorupi to confuse all the Deoxys. Another strategy is to goal rush the Deoxys with Virizion around midgame and then use the concentrated fertilizer plate (puts his purple a star above Deo-D's) to try and take the goal. Phantump may work so you might want to try it out too.

What do you level up on Virizion? All three attacks seem extremely solid. I can't decide if I want to maximize the 101 white to deal with Reuniclus, or the Purple for its utility, or Grass Knot to deal with Reu/Deo and runners (but not much else).

And does anyone have experience with Trevenant? I have a full Grass deck short of him and can craft it, but I'm not entirely sure if he's worth it. His wheel seems insane, but Destiny Bond on a 1MP Pokemon seems like pure ass.

Depends on your other pokemon and plates. I find that the 101 damage is much more safer than jobbing to a 50 damage attack with grass knot. I levelled up the purple myself, since I can beat Deoxys-Defense with it with Concentrated Fertiliser.

Here are the two unreleased Water EXs in the game as well, unless I have brain damage and Feraligatr's always been there. Kyogre's probably going to be a gym reward like Groudon, so Feraligatr's probably going to be in the booster. Neither have an ability, so I'd guess Feraligatr will get Speed Booster?

Don't forget Manaphy exists. 140 damage Hydro Pump would have been great against Deoxys and Reuniclus.

My problem with Dark Energy is that it's incredibly specialized. It's made to counter exactly two types of decks, outside of that it's almost completely useless since not many run more than 1 psychic or ghost type (usually Mew or Shuppet, who aren't used for attacking).

It reminds me of a time when I still used to go to smogon forums and people would parrot an incredibly annoying opinion that [insert niche Pokemon] is only good for countering [insert overpowered mon], except this time it's actually totally fucking true.

I wouldn't say Dark Energy is completely useless outside of Deo/Reun. It's definitely not very useful and takes up a plate slot, but that plate slot is already objectively warranted because of how good Dark Energy is vs one of the most powerful decks in Deoxys (and to an extent Reuni) builds. If I can throw an Yveltal or Gren in front of a Metagross because of Dark Energy, that's still pretty damn useful in a neutral matchup even if it's not substantial.

The fact that Dark Energy is immense in some battles and that I don't suffer too much from building it into my team (Greninja and Yveltal are really not all that bad even without Dark Energy) is enough to make it worth using imo. It's not like having to run outright garbage like Cresselia or RestTalk Gyarados to counter Landorus in Gen 5/6 OU when it was tearing shit up.

That's the same problem with the Grass update. But at least with Tropical, it also removes status conditions so even in a dead matchup it's a Full Heal for your whole board.

Deoxys and Reuniclus are still Tier 1 figures so you can get good mileage off a 1-cost plate.
And at the very least, you can use it against multi-type Psychic/Ghost Pokemon that fit into other energy decks.

We also haven't actually gotten a Psychic Energy plate yet, so when that inevitably hits, you can dust off Dark Energy.

You may have noticed that Flying types have gotten a lot of usage recently, and we took it upon ourselves to balance the metagame based on this. I'd like to announce a new plate:

Initially, our update will contain some new figures, of which I'll reveal two. These figures are very important for countering the broken Dark Energy users, as well as Grass Types

I'm just dumb and by the time I'm three turns from a 'guaranteed victory' I forget all about what cards the opponent has.
Checking manually takes so fucking long I try to memorize them as the match is starting.

Grovyle isn't that important. The only difference it makes is letting Sceptile tie with Zapdos if it doesn't get the second Leaf Blade, or letting the gold tie Runners (and beat Mew, but if you evolve Leaf Blade will no longer beat Hyper Sonic on one spin). And while those are two of the best figures in the game, it's hard to justify jumping through a hoop just for that.

Besides that, both Virizion and Sceptile are extremely similar.
Sceptile has a blue, but Virizion's purple lets you swap which is arguably better than jumping and Virizion can MP move over things anyways.
Grass Knot beats the current meta, but it's tiny and double Leaf Blade does the same thing but safely.
Sceptile comes with a gold to beat Confuse Ray, Deoxys D, and other purples.

Just take that into consideration and compare what you need with the rest of your team.
Or just run both.

I actually think the 100 Leaf Blade is huge if you theoretically had a lot of C Lv on it, considering you could beat Zapdos, Virizion, Reun Brain Linkx2 and Yveltal. Plus 40 quick attack is damn nice

However I think evolution is way too costly to try to implement your team and attempt all the time, even with all the Mew running around. I'll take always having a solid Sceptile over sometimes having an amazing Sceptile

I have no idea what move should I upgrade in virizion, the 3 are useful.

Purple makes you Gold bait but if you're smart you just pick your matchups amd avoid Mew, Gren, Zap. The fact that you can potentially cheese an entire game in one fight with Typhoon is huge tho still.

Yeah, I think sceptile is fucking awesome, but a super-shuppet in Virizion for the gym is enticing. Sceptile seems like it'll let me longer in the current meta.

holy shit, why i'm so shit today, i got my 10 keys box from losing match after match
the worst part is that i can't even complain about deoxys teams because i didn't even saw one
two of the my most embarrasing loses were blocking leafeon with a grass pokemon without realizing that it could walk through it, and then when i tried to kill it it got a dodge, and the other one was this guy just making his way through with a Lucario, a fucking lucario that got the best rolls and just killed a Yveltal, a virizion and a mew and then just walked into my goal.
i don't know what's wrong with me today, i lost over 250 ranting and my team isn't even that bad...

The other day I forgot the Eevees get 3MP and set myself up to get a figure surrounded and that set up Moltres to soar right onto my goal a couple turns later. Sometimes you make mistakes and lose, but most of the time you just fucking play the game and gamble and lose.

This has probably been asked before, but I'm trying to decide on buying Sceptile or Verizon

This is my current team (lacking a solid deo counter, however once people start building more tropical energy decks I would drop reun and build one myself

Which figure would be best?

>pull a quad and a six pack because I'm severely lacking in good things

>Tropius and Cottonee as grass types

At least I got my 4th EX and it's actually almost viable. Too bad I now have 3 Sliggoo and 4 Vibrava with the dragon gym long since over.

Also I'm back to 1250 gems after collecting a couple day's worth of login rewards that were in my inbox. Should I buy one more of each?
