I think Masuda doesn't have many opportunities like B2W2 to really really surprise the fanbase. He can't surprise people with the usual core pair of a generation like XY or SM. Everyone knows those come every three years... Everybody was shocked when ORAS was announced, but it was very predictable to think Hoenn was after XY though.

The next whatever game is Masuda's rare opportunity to surprise everyone like with B2W2.

You can expect a sequel to Alola. But also including Kalos would make a suitable grand surprise like B2W2. Also, I think that Zygarde really does have a bigger mission in Alola.
