It's a setting for my PTU campaign, really. A fairly large region made out of three major subregions. The east is the Grasslands region, which ranges in climate from tropical rainforest at the southern tip to taiga at the northern point of the mainland. General aesthetics are Celtic around the midpoint, then as you go further up north it slowly becomes more Scandic. At one corner is the Evergreen, the largest city that is overlooked by a massive tree, that hosts the grass trial, where trainers are expected to care for a flower they will plant into themselves until it leads them to the tree.

At the south is the Sapphire Archipelago, pretty much the water region. Styles are mix of southeast to east Asian. Imagine Javanese and Sumatrans style houses in the villages with traditional Japanese fishermen working out of them. the water gym is located on a mirage island, and trainers are expected to sail around a small set of islets until they fine the island where Magikarp constantly struggle against a waterfall to become Gyarados. They're also free to eat them if they make it.

The Fire Plains are to the northwest and are supposed to be like North-Central America. you have to cross a desert to reach the cities, past a ton of land left for Tauros and Miltank to graze. Go further north and the desert gives way to shrubland around a large lake that provides water, and further north still is a plateau where you see more traditional architecture, which I haven't really ironed out but I wanted it to resemble Dark souls a little. A large volcano hosts the fire gym, though I haven't ironed out exactly what the trial should be to reach the peak.

The center is a sprawling city that ties them together, a kind of dragon heartland. There is a reverence of dragon Pokemon like Rayquaza that conquered the other legendary Pokemon with the help of grass, fire and water Pokemon. At the very center is the Duality Tower, which is somehow taller than everything.

The mythology is that in a time long past, people lived in an older world that was eventually torn apart due to rampaging legendary Pokemon. People eventually managed to cross universes to settle this new one, which was done by invoking dragon legendary pokemon like Rayquaza and Zygarde to fight and subjugate other legendary Pokemon to make the new world habitable by creating laws for space and time, stabilizing life and death cycles, and so on. There's a lot of reverence for dragon pokemon and they are associated with law and power over/embodiments of nature, with the balance of fairies as more untameable nature spirits who maintain a slightly separate dimension. Much of the world was based on the memories of the first people, who directed how they wanted to build the world. All in all, all the types are very much in harmony, with water, grass and fire being the major themes of each subregion because of their importance in nature and the power of dragons over them. Every type has its own city too, and people themselves becoming associated with a type depending on their first Pokemon, which always becomes the Pokemon they bond with most, said to be the twins of their soul. Gym leaders of the water, grass and fire gyms are so exceptionally powerful tied to their type and the land they have powers of their type and live in sacred places.

All except normal types, that is. Normal types get nothing. Nobody remembered them at the dawn. Those who bond with normal type pokemon rarely amount to much and never feel the connection with the world around them like other types.

The villain is a young trainer traveling with the PCs, who will slowly become more and more upset about this. She has a mysterious flute that was found with her as a baby that plays music that seems to come from other worlds. Together with other downtrodden children, she will eventually form her own team and sing for the Original One.

Yeah, it actually came about as a plot line because I realised how little fucks I give about normal types, in-game I even actively avoid having them on my team because there's nearly always a more interesting Pokemon to use in their stead.

that and I really wanted a villain who was the opposite of typical Pokemon villains. She's not someone powerful, she's just another pokemon trainer on the road, and her ace isn't something menacing like Weavile or Hydreigon orr Houndoom, it's a Blissey.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who finds Hoenn comfy. I've never gotten over how MUCH of it there is that has no point, no purpose -- just there to be found and explored, maybe to gather some berries but overall just there for the experience of being found. I didn't find that little island off the coast of Rustboro for years. I still really appreciate design like that.

I'm replaying Platinum and I forgot how comfy Sinnoh could be. I love its OST so much.

I haven't posted on /vp/ in months but I've been here since it's creation.

Honestly guys I can tell I'm definitely not into Pokémon as much as I used to be but I appreciate it in another way now and I'm finally content with that.
I used to play the games over and over again no mater what gen but now I just play the latest one once and that's that.
Hell, I play GO everyday cause I go out on a walk every night and just so happen to pass a few spots.

Next mainline game I'd be cool with DP remakes or sunmoon 2. I dunno how ready I am for new gen hype all over.

I'm in a similar spot to you. Lived and breathed Pokemon when I was younger. Started with Yellow which eventually lead me to spending my time drawing literally hundreds, probably even thousands pieces of fanart, logged way too many hours on the games themselves, posting on fansite forums, reading bad fan theories, the whole nine yards. Bought every game including the shitty spin-offs until XY came out, the interest just sort of fizzled, and never really came back to what it was.

I still obviously care about it since I'm posting on /vp/ of all things, but it's a different sort of care from Pokemon on the brain 24/7. I doubt I'll ever match passion and intensity I had for it for anything else in my life. Not that I mind, it's nice taking it slow.

Definitely Sinnoh. I spent so much of my time playing Pearl (and later Platinum) and I have always love exploring the region. It is really big and there is a lot to do, even in the post-game. I also always love how this region is stuffed with lots of interesting lore. All of this makes Sinnoh the most comfy region for me.

I still miss my lost Pearl game to this day. I had transferred over my favorite Gen 3 Pokemon from it. Shit hurts. I'm really starting to appreciate how comfy Sinnoh can be lately. I love how much there was to the region, how much to see and how much to do, and a lot of the Pokemon have grown on me. It's really nice.

Just keep at it, eventually the cutscenes calm down. Honestly, just train anything that catches your eye and enjoy the ride. Alola can be pretty comfy.

These threads have made me want to train all sorts of Pokemon I never considered before. It's been a lot of fun to get to know them and replay through the games that way.

It's definitely worth it, you get an appreciation for pokemon that you previously passed off as garbage. Hell, I've been intentionally avoiding any familiar pokemon since X/Y in my playthroughs just to get a feel for newer shit.
