They never connected, but they would at least use the same characters and Pokemon. The newest one is literally making up OC characters and chaning how Ash's adventure started, it's either retconning his adventure and is supposed to be SM Ash's origin story, or they're trying to include a multiverse here like what they did with ORAS and SM.
