I love Decidueye, but I don't think it will be a shillmon. Hell it's probably better that way. The closest to a shillmon gen 7 has is probably Mimikyu, though even that doesn't quite fit - it's more of a mascot. Rowlet is an Alola mascot mon too, it's ridiculously popular.

It's true that Rowlet is more popular than its evos but to be fair, Decidueye is popular in its own right. It's slightly unfair to compare other mons to Rowlet because it's probably the most popular Alola mon, period.

I was just doing almost the same thing. Of the Alola mons I looked up, here's what I found:

This is not only Rowlet, this is merchandise traditionally aimed at girls. Pokemon's main audience is still boys and putting Incineroar in a movie whose audience will inevitably be composed of boys will give him a major boost, considering he's a hipster choice already if the endless threads mean anything. I would not be surprised if Rowlet was a throwaway choice for this line of stuff.

Not to mention that hideous, hideous plush is not going to do him favors while both Primarina and Incineroar look great.

Primarina is a pretty big turn-around from Popplio. Popplio goes from rather goofy looking to a pretty, feminine mermaid - it's attractive both to girls/women and Pokefuckers. Plus Rowlet is REALLY popular so it naturally overshadows other Pokemon.

Some people mentioned Japan also having distaste over the hulking fire tiger. I can't remember correctly, but some people have mentioned Japanese disliking Incineroar in general, even if its intent was probably to be a tribute to Tiger Mask.

Well, it was designed in a way that makes people hate his guts due to its actions and selfish demeanor (which is actually mentioned to have a heart of gold in the site, but nowhere else in the dex, further emphasizing how it can even disobey and even hurt its trainer) so it's not like people shouldn't have seen this coming.

It was one or two japanons on /int/ that were surprised Incineroar was even a thing, and was asked in a way to get a negative reaction from them like "what do you think of this abomination" or something like that.

Overall Incineroar is not as disliked as people make it out to be, it's almost always about its bipedalism or proportions, but it's concept is still well received, an evil wrestling tiger with that's a tribute to tiger mask.

Nah, Rowlet is a fairly obvious progression - it turns into an archer. Going from cute to cool is also a very common progression in starters (and Pokemon in general). It's not nearly as big a turnaround as with Popplio and Brionne/Primarina. There's a reason a lot of people thought Popplio was going to become a clown, and were surprised by the idol/siren transformation.

Apparently it was a really nice surprise and most people are really happy about it. Also it kinda depends on how you look at it: for example, Rowlet's flying abilities take a big dip upon evolving, while Popplio becomes better as a swimmer. Ash I believe caught chikorita first, yes it did evolve, but it didn't evolve fully, and plus cyndaquill out of nowhere evolved learned eruption, and ash tout it Arial ace, so I think it's stronger then bayleaf,

Ash catches Turtwig first, he had evrthing going for him, but then chimchar came out of nowhere jumped in team, and was OP as hell, while torterra was reduced to a useless fully evolved starter, plus ash didn't even teach it earthquake, or stone edge, WTF,

Oh, and gen five, yes ash did catch tepig before snivy, and snivy was the strongest at first, but then, for some reason snivy stayed a sniy despite all of it's wins, and tepig was the only unova starter to evolve, snivy was perfect too, it was like the litten of gen5, no wait litten is a comedy mon.
