I don't know about you guys, but I kind of like how they're actually using their own characters to tell this story. It always bothered me how indecisive the show's creators often are when adapting the games, so to see that they maybe finally decided to just tell their own story with their own characters is pretty neat.

If this were in America (not sure if Japan is different), Pokemon would potentially have to pay the writers who made the characters what they are. If their contracts were not set up to allow their ideas to be used outside of the TV show, this could easily explain why Pokemon isn't using them. So they would not have to pay them.
