Why do people even think kids should be sheltered from the concept of death? If anything, early exposure to it will make it easier for them to deal with it should they lose a loved one. I know as a kid I was always well aware of it, probably because my mother had a disease with promises of early death hanging over her pretty much my entire life until she did die, and I was never bothered by it in media.
