Yusuke Ohmura got fired after the release of sun moon or leave game freak for reasons, he unlike Sugimori used digital software to draw for that his art is a bit strange for us who grow with the sugi style.
Also i think that ohmuras work was great, modern i will say.

I dont dislike it because it's different, I just dislike it. It's flat, it has weird shading, weird colors, everything looks too bright, it's just off for me.

this is however the only pic I have relating to it because i dont care that much. But Gen 7 art feels like a noticeable downgrade. Except for the human characters

I only will say that maybe the use of pure digital to draw the pokemon is a bit strange for us but you can accept that is more perfeccionist the new style. The line art is gold. The paint yes, the colors have more contrast and less tone variations.

These made them distinctly different from the animals they were based on, unlike Gen 1, but you could still tell what they were based on. They also kept the objectmons down to a minimum, unlike Gen 5. It was the perfect balance of overdesign and underdesign. Try again.

There were four and a half "object" lines, even considering Litwik, Kink, and Confagrious are debatable. Gen 4 had Chingling, Bonzor, Drifloon, and five Rotom forms in a generation that was about half of the size.

Im not talking about pre Gen 3 vs post Gen 3. Gen 4 to 6 has the best art and I still (probably) prefer 7's style to 1 to 3, but This most recent style is definitely not better.
