It's because we actually have 3 good starters this time and there's not a "clear superior one". This means people grew really attached to them and want to defend them at every occasion, sometimes even by attacking one of the other 2. And then there's the people who hate all 3 of them and always join the conversation to express their hate for them, of course.
Honestly we should just be happy we have a fantastic set this time.

Not everyone here agrees with that sentiment, anon. I actually am not crazy about any of the three, for reasons unique to each.

I picked Borb to start my first playthrough, and it was probably the one I was least negative about. Still is the case now. We will see if that still holds true when I do playthroughs with the other two.
