plus scarf set is so good right now, considering the other common scarf user is pheromosa, which gengar resists all oh her attacks, allowing for a clean late game sweep.

It's Sugimori's favourite Pokemon so it will always receive special attention from the developers.

There's a lack of ghost resist everywhere. Only dark resists ghost and normal is immune, but both of those are weak to fighting, so a Gengar with just Focus Blast and Shadow Ball can already hit every single pokemon at least neutrally. I think the only possible type that would resist ghost with fighting coverage would be normal/ghost, being immune to both. But a normal/ghost mon was never made.

It's good now not because Curse Body was such a great thing for it but because the sheer abundance of Fairies and UBs made bulky Dark types almost a liability to run now. And Normal types without Mega Kangz and Mega Lop in the tier are just plain not used outside of a certain pink blob of stall which gets ruined by Trick anyways.

Well it's not hard to figure out that an ability that grants an immunity to one of the best attacking types is better than an ability that requires you getting hit on a squishy mon. Gengar is just good enough that it still stays relevant despite the nerf. The fairy meta definitely helps it too. Gengar OHKOs all of the Tapus except Fini.

Name one thing it can't fuck up, and don't forget it has its own unique z-move for spectral thief that's 195 BP that it'll totally be running at least a quarter of the time.

In the first 5 or so gens it was fast and hit hard, so it didn't matter if Poison was a shit type. Then gen 6 introduced Fairy-types and gave it an insane mega-evolution, which helped it keep up with the power creep.

It also gets Rock Tomb. Similar to Breloom, you get a slightly weaker but more accurate Stone Edge with a stat reducing utility. This Ghost is going be busted.

The only problem with Marshadow is that it has too many good moves and you can just use 4.

Why did they feel the need to take Levitate from Gengar anyway?

Normal Gengar was always popular but never a huge problem. Other mons have always been consistently good too, like Alakazam or Tyranitar.

Mega Gengar was far more deserving of a nerf than the normal form.
Shit like Mega Salamence stays the same but normal Gengar loses a great ability and gets a terrible one in exchange? For what purpose?
