So I know the main complaints around here are about Reuniclus and Deoxys, but man, for newbies like me, I think Fug is the single worst thing to face. I don't even have any figures with attacks as strong as his gold, he can march right down the field and take my goal almost every single time as long as he keeps an eye out for surrounds. I rarely get lucky enough to beat him on bad rolls

Because no one can control what figures you specifically have, so there's no reason to discuss that sort of balance.

You're absolutely right, though. There's an absurd power gap between F2P players and sextuple/paid/lucky players. EX Pokemon have the strongest white attacks, the biggest gold and purple attacks, gold attacks that can beat most white attacks, purple attacks that have a game-changing effect when they go off, and damage well above the MP curve. They're just BETTER.

If you don't have these Pokemon, there's virtually no way for you to win against a competent opponent unless they gamble and lose, which they shouldn't. EX players have an absurdly high statistical advantage.

I did at first but not anymore. When they lose, they're just spending gems to keep the streak going. They're used to losing. One more loss isn't going to matter that much to them.

I'd feel more bad about ruining a 1800-2000 player's streak if they're using a varied team and not just Reuniclus/Deoxys.

I was told tanking my gym rank to < 1500 would make it easier to win since everyone there are shitters. It turns out it's just players better than me with the same idea.

the devs probably started adding all of the existing figures in but realized there were no gen4+ figures so they went to focus on those for awhile.

There are probably a lot of very young kids who have the game and probably aren't old enough to know Gen 2/3 but do know at least 4/5/6/7 (why gen 7 isn't in it yet is a mystery). The devs probably didn't want to alienate these players.

I'm sure the original figures will make it in eventually.

I have 2 EXs in total and 0 Reuniclus (opened 76 boosters in the gym and only got a shitty Dragonite).

Defensive play is very hard to do. Getting lucky by being aggressive is the only way I get 50/50 wins above 2000, if the opponent gets their full team out I lose the vast majority of the time and usually forfeit way before wasting 5 minutes in a hopeless match.

assuming I know it actually exists, I would have probably stayed addicted for the first month or so the game was out. After that I would have quit after the Deoxys equivalent came and ruined the game.

I assumed that since this game has the Pokemon brand attached to it, the in app payments wouldn't be so bad. I also thought that the devs would try to balance the game in some way. I guess I thought wrong but I'm still slightly optimistic the game will get better eventually. Either with nerfs, buffs, or a new type of league where the current one becomes a new format altogether.

I don't think a no name game dev or or dev with a history of poorly done F2P games would entice me to stay after a major screw up like this game has.

Pokemon's official VGC tournament at least bans certain Pokemon from competitions. Certain legendary/event Pokemon aren't allowed to be used. There are some other rules, I think, like not being allowed to use multiples of Pokemon on your team. Possibly different held items too.

I'm probably totally wrong about this next part but I think there's also a sleep clause? Maybe? I could have sworn it was in VGC but I'm not sure. I know it was built into the Pokemon Stadium games which VGC was originally based off of. Sleep/Freeze clause were definitely in effect for the really old tournaments. Not sure about now.

So the tournaments for the mainline games are somewhat balanced at least. They tried. It would be nice if Pokemon Duel made a special format with custom rules and such too.

Metagross work perfectly, just goal block/switch a metagross into your goal and then send your other figures to fight against the reuniclus, they start falling one after another without they ability to respin.

But for the deoxis teams, break energy is fucking pathetic, especially because they're not ability but attacks that need to be rolled against a deoxis, and unless your opponent is retarded and attacked your ray with a deoxis S/normal, your ray is gonna die after landing that attack.

Gardevoir is pretty good, it's one of the better ones to pull for your first EX. If you get a Kirlia it's probably worth setting up evolution too, Kirlia gets a pretty good chance at that unlike most pre-evos.

Gems are only worth spending on the largest booster packs, and maybe expanding your storage space if you really want to. Never spend them on timed boosters (I accidentally did that once because the game decided I wanted to do that instead of begin opening it for some reason).

Also surrounding a piece means you need to do that on every side, so at certain spots it means you need to surround all 3 spots next to it to take it out.

I used it for a while but dropped it after they released birds over the other pieces I had. Using it effectively (as in warping something into a surround) requires precise positioning and you just know you'll never roll it when you really need it. Though I guess you can at least try spamming double chances with Magic Trick now.

his 'burn on death' flamethrower is nice, 70 damage fire blast is nice, and now even miss is nice (I'm hoping to get max revives back or maybe overdrive if that stacks on the same dragon)

chucking a 2mp mon gets it out of range for one turn, and chucking a 1mp makes it cry

the description is a little funny, it says '3 steps away from this pokemon' but essentially it means 'move the opponent 3 steps in any direction'

it goes over things, but cant go 'up to 3' like spiky shield will do if every other option is blocked (I think)

All that being said, I think if it was released today it would have stronger whites and hyperspace would give wait as well

An outright nerf will be only chance to save this game IMO, I can't think of any other option. If you just introduce hard counters to Reuniclus and Deoxys it means the meta will just become x teams plus anti-x teams and anti-anti-x-teams etc. It's already happening since running Metagross is basically required and a smart Reuniclus player will have some kind of Metagross killer (Gastly or Deoxys-A work well).

The game was never balanced, but before Reuniclus and Deoxys people could just bash together EXs and get a team that had a decent shot at winning and there was some variation in teams. These pieces just make the game plain unfun to play.

Reuniclus's big miss spots would be hit pretty hard by Earthquake, but that assumes they're dumb enough to attack Torterra to begin with (and chances are when they get around to it they'll respin until they confuse it to death).

given that dark energy steamrolls deoxys decks, their presence will be diminished until people stop running deoxys, leading to people not running dark energy decks, at which point people start running deoxys more again

Yeah I feel like the best way to go about it is probably to run your 2 or 3 dark guys (maybe a greninja and yveltal), set up as safe a board as you can (put a mew against their deo-A if they put it out, whatever else against another one (lucario) so they cant straight up threaten you

keep the dark guys safe until you can dark energy, then chase down their defense ones with gold attackers, chase down the speed ones and chase the deo-A until it slips enough for you to take entries

I hate this dark energy.
It's made for Deoxys, but it also makes cool psychic types like Bronzong and Xatu impossible to use.
Making a specific counter is not how you fix broken meta, it just turns it into rock paper scizors. Now Dark teams will beat Deo teams, Deo teams will still beat normal teams, and normal teams will beat Dark teams.

Time to bust out the ol' Keldeo+Deoxys combo I guess.

Tbf evolve rock wrecker is an auto kill on Moltres and Latias if you're c-leveled, Rock Wrecker also would tie Reuniclus and prevent you from being Confused.

Definitely not a huge incentive to do it but it seems pretty easy to do and there are some cool perks

still beats everything except that 1 specific dark deck and even then thats iffy because deoxys A rolls 135 and has re-roll unless a dark deck happens to be running a 1mp shitter like metagross.
meanwhile dark is on even par with literally everything.
so the meta of the game is still: There is one completely broken deck that beats everything, and one deck that counters it for a 50-50 shot at winning if you go first, and the deck that counters it isnt good against other decks.
this is not "balance". balance would be nerfing the deoxys deck so its at least somewhat beatable by other decks... not just releasing one specific way to beat it that still kind of sucks when up against other 2500 decks. i don't understand why they can't just balance their fucking game like every other developer on earth. yes deoxys deck should be good but it shouldnt be so amazingly good that it is a guranteed win on every other deck besides dark. i mean the fact that during the DRAGON CUP the best teams were all deoxys didn't even shake up the developer to at least slightly nerf it is ridiculous.

As someone without a ho-oh, I find it rolling fire blast far more annoying. It either kills me, which sucks, or I kill it, which sucks worse. Usually when it gets Rainbow Wing I just think "okay good, it can stay over there while I take spawn points first."
Maybe I just play defensive enough that jumps don't bother me too much, but I'd level fire blast.

It's happened to me multiple, multiple times that I get to the goal and win but I get an error message right after stepping onto the goal. It still counts as win though, I never had it make me lose, but maybe those times were the enemy trying to use the exploit and not being fast enough?

Now that we're getting a fire/ground gym, it has to be true that we'll eventually get a steel/rock gym.

Steel is weak to fire, ground, fighting
Steel is effective against rock, ice, fairy

We already had gyms with most of those types so the only option is Steel/Rock.

it also means that we'll be getting Poison/Grass too.

Poison is weak to ground, psychic
Poison is effective against grass, fairy

Bug is weak to fire, flying, rock
Bug is good against grass, psychic, dark

So we're definitely getting Bug/Dark


Assuming they never reuse types, we should be able to find out every possible gym at this point, except for maybe normal and ghost. Those will be weird.

Idk if I'm the only one actually trying to dark plate with a full dark team, but it really blows desu. I have Yveltel, 3xWeavile, and Umbreon, and all of them get fucked in the ass by Reun. I tried using Umbreon just to get the noxious on Reun, but forgot that Umbreon's toxic is one star while Reun's confuse ray (which turns Umbreon into a huge miss/40 attacker) is three stars. If the opponent had 3xReun, the match turns into them slowly pushing my figures back to the goal, and I can only win if they make a ridiculous misplay. Wtf do I do against Reun?
