Two Celebis come from the future to drag you through a time travelling adventure, one of them later joins you cause fuck it and also tells you you will have a son in the future later.

The Lake Trio separately appears in the journey just to for you to battle them and capture if you have patience for that

Said Celebis take you to the past when there is happening a shitty war and Yveltal is attacking them and you actually capture Yveltal as if time paradoxes and pokemon XY don't matter.

I forgot the rest regarding legendaries. It says a lot about this game when it has a worse writing than Insurgence and Insurgence's writing sucks. Luna is an actual Mary Sue by all accounts and there isn't anything. Not a single thing bad about whatever she does perceivable by the characters.

The biggest BS so far in the game are between 1- when your female friend dies but the scientist you are helping developed a medicine so powerful it even cures death (that's actually what he says before reviving her), or 2- when a nigger creates a machine that revives the scientist from distance inside the house of Chan's sister out of nowhere. AND HE DIED ON DISTORTION WORLD!

Then there is the fact Chan's younger brother is a doctor supposedly intelligent enough to create a cure for an incurable disease according to his diaries but he acts like an 8 years old when you meet him, completed with battling you cause he wants to prove he suffered more than you for reasons.

Nah, music's easy, it's just kind of time consuming. Or it is in Gen 2 at least. Trust me, I have like no experience in assembly and I've ported more than 40 songs to Gen 2. Gen 2 music is basically a more limited version of MIDI.

So is Insurgence's writing worse than Reborn's? I remember it being bad, but I can't remember just how bad.

A lot worse than Reborn and Rejuv. Insurgence's writers have barely any skills. They can even think about few twists and plot points, but those tend to be generic and the characters talk as if they are machines moving and conveniently appearing and acting when needed.

Rejuvenation you aren't exactly supposed to take it seriously unless it's a serious part and even at that there are its exceptions. Hell, the characters themselves keep joking about the situation and stuff. It's more like a dark slice of life pokemon most of the times.

However, now that you are at Gym 8, Saki must have been already gone from the story and will only return next episode. The writing continues pretty much the same, but without a hit-and-miss character like her you will see a difference. Venam, however, will participate more (all the more since you can't talk and someone has to do that for you).

Insurgence, on the other hand keeps going down and down with the writing. You will see the differece. In Rejuvenation the characters do act dumb, but you still feel them as humans and characters that act like (dumb) people. In Insurgence, that doesn't happen. The dialogues are horrible and since the story is moved by that, it takes a hit.

1st: there is a difference from ROMhack and fangame in general

3rd: SM is actually good, though it's like they rushed everything after we enter Ultra Space. I was expecting something like Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, with travelling through the other world, then going back, then final battle etc.

Agreed. Thankfully he seems to be open for suggestions and shit like that, unlike most fangame makers that angrily ignore them. Jam changed his maps, changed the designs of characters, changed their actions and tried to balance shit and make it more cohesive. You see how rejuv is now and compare it all the way back and the difference is there (Valerieee!!!).

I can see abortion's actions and dialogues changing, but he probably loves Venam and Saki the way they are.

Humility is good. I genuinely like most of the maps, and there's been a massive improvement in nearly everything since Episode 3, which is when I started playing. Strangely enough I've never had a problem with Valerie, though maybe because every time I fight her I have a monster like Ampharos or Clefable to fight.

This thread seems to be full of self-proclaimed ROMhack experts, so I ask the thread; what kind of game would YOU make?
I've had an idea for years to do one, just never had the time to sit down and learn it. I figure if I'm gonna do it I'm gonna do it right.

It's probably easier to describe what I'd like to play.

Aside standard things like difficulty, what I really want is a well fleshed-out world. I run a PTU campaign myself and I put a lot of work in detailing my region, down to architectural styles, fashion, ecology and so on. It's one of the reasons I unironically like Reborn, there's a lot of work put into the world. Same with SM and BW2, and at the same time one of the reasons why I fucking hate XY. The worst crime of Insurgence and Zeta/Omicron isn't that they have bad writing, it's that their world is fucking boring, leading to the same for most of the game until you're reading an amusing piece of bad dialogue. Pokemon games have been and should be about adventure exploring a world.

I would use everything pointed out at other fangames and try to learn of it instead of starting right away from the same mistakes. Would use time travel because I love it and reference Mystery Dungeon Time, Darkness and Sky as a myth for the ones attempting it, while also making them full aware of the limitations of it from what they deduced from the legend (they won't be able to remain in the past after the future is changed, will be locked in a doomed future after that, etc.)

I would also try to have someone here to call on my shit when doing that. Since execution save even the worst ideas, try to show how it would be executed first and then if disagreed try to make it better. Patience is a virtue and all and those that can't keep their composure and fated to make mistakes.

I would also not make everything focused on the playable character, giving other characters their chance to shine and act. Lillie, for example, barely did anything in SM story while also being important to it. Having her battle sometimes during it and actually actively helping you out would be an example of that.

That's actually a good point now that I think about it. I always felt something strange in Insurgence while progressing through the game. Now that I stop to think about it, that may have something to do with it. It was simple, straightforward and cramped while going through the game. The map should have been ampler, more thought out.

Difficulty is definitely something I want to stand out. Not to the point of being unfair except maybe towards the end, but come on, but enough to where it actually feels challenging. One of my biggest complaints with S/M is that the actual battles feel almost like an afterthought, where E4 members have Pokemon that don't even have full movesets. AI is fundamentally retarded and I don't think GF can significantly improve it, so an acceptable workaround is to give them the least chance of fucking up. Doesn't excuse Lusamine's bewear having nothing to hit my Decidueye, but in a pre-fairy world having a banded dragon spam nothing but outrage would be a good idea.

They can too improve it, they just choose not to.
Colosseum/GoD has good AI and movesets compared to every other main game not counting the battle facilities for example. GF needs to actually challenge the player. Totems were close, but everything else falls flat.

You have to remember a good bit of the difficulty in Colosseum came from being stuck with Johto shitmons too. Plus, double battles allow for more complex AI strats.

For my 2 cents about the other fan games like reborn and such, I like some of the gameplay and what interesting concepts (though some of them aren’t use in their full potential), the writing however is just awful because it tried to be “mature” but either falls off for being poorly written (the story for the game is bad to begin with), poorly executed (the concept for the story seems to be promising, but failed to make it consistent throughout the game ), and/or poorly thought (as in, you though that particular segment for the game is mediocre, until you find out the context of what it’s about and it becomes even worse).

For me however, if I could made a pokemon romhack/rpgmaker game, I wanted to be not just the journey for the player character but a coming-of-age type of game since - to me however - pokemon is about accompany with your pokemon and the friends around you. I really don’t think it would need the evil team/legendary pokemon main plot, it will be more on the lines of just casually enjoyed the world around you.

For the game play I wanted, it will be just like pokemon but I wanted to drastically change the concepts of almost everything, not changing the turn-based rpg into something completely different, but with a twist. For starters, I want the main protagonist to be in a much younger age, this means the player, is not really a “trainer” but still get his/her starter as a pet and allowing to obtain other pokemon, it’s just very different for what you used to get (I’ll explain this later on). For the region, I want to have full freedom the player to explore the entirety of the world, while it will be some restrictions such as trees, rocks, and such, it will be similar to poke riders so there will be no HMs involved. the battle system for this game will be entirely of triple battles, for this games gimmick I want every move to had an environment effect in which instead of the pokemon using a move against another pokemon, it will be on around area causing a different effect, I want to do something more like z-moves in SM in which is a concept that any pokemon can do without limiting to others like megas. The pokemon you “obtain” will be more like mystery dungeon/anime in which you first help the pokemon in need, in return you can called it out whenever you want as well as being the one that can help said obstacle. Since your a child in this game, you must attend to a pokeschool with around 18 other kids (one for each type specialty) and can either allowed them to be in your party, develop rivalry, as well as having them to be introduce you to the other additions to the game. Other mechanics such as fishing, farming, room making, performance, and so-on will have a little bit more in-depth as well as actually helping out throughout the game. TMs will have a secondary effect in which you can used them to play a different music in either over world or in battle. Since you’re too young to battle other trainers, the only overall encounters you’ll have are pokemon with their own hordes (meaning random encounters will be removed).

And that’s some of the ideas I wanted for my game before I derailed into a blog.
