The last thread was successful, lets try this again. Post any Fakemon, old or new, that you have designed (Preferably with drawings of it). Give and request critique on your designs.

Starting off with some shitty crude GIMP drawings.

Thanks to some anons in the other thread, I've been able to work more on my fire starters. Adjusted the colors slightly, so now rather than the emboar orange color it uses a color closer to cyndaquil's line

For the final stage, should it use actual fingers, such as the one above, or use more of a bladed set of claws on the bottom, to match up with the samurai theme?

Definitely the bladed set of claws at the bottom. The one at the top is, again, similar to Emboar's. Love what you've done to the colours though- I suggested the black shell in the last thread, and it looks really nice with the updated colours.

Posting Rockatoo from last thread for anyone who hasn't seen it. Such a great design.
>>
>>32114070
This along with the prevo look more like things you would see in a jrpg that's not Pokemon.

The prevo looks too simple, and relies too heavily on the scales to make its design work. For example, if you take the orb away from spoink's design, it still stands pretty well on its own design wise. If you take the scales away from yours, it just looks like some random rpg monster.

The evo looks much better than the prevo, but it still suffers from being too simple. I believe someone in the last thread suggested you try to incorporate the scales more naturally into the design, rather than making them both separate entities altogether. It's an okay concept, but to me these aren't very great.

>>32115282
This is a great example of being ridiculous and having it work out great. Is it possible to make a version with the squared off part of the wings spiky instead? It looks slightly odd in comparison with how jagged the main part of the design looks, but it's just an overly personal opinion.
>>
>>32115454
Thanks for the honesty. That Spoink comparison is helpful, I know what you mean that it's kind of bland without the scales. While I wanted to avoid doing an overhaul of the design, it might be best so I can easier incorporate it. Just need an animal that goes with the scales theme- the same guy, I think, in the last thread suggested a ram, but I'm avoiding 4-legged animals for now due to my inability to draw them, so I'll think it through. Thanks again

I swear I discussed the idea of a Cockatoo with a punk rock vibe months ago in a fakemon thread. We were talking about potential ways to work a Cockatiel into a regional bird.

Even if that's not how this design came about, it still looks awesome, holy shit.

I get this feeling too. I think the "fire" colors and the pattern you are using make it look a bit forced. Maybe try changing the pattern, specially on the face?
Also, as an owner of a greyhound, I would suggest that you give it less of a tummy and more chest (pic related), so it doesn't look like a donkey. A longer snout too.
>>
>>32119523
Also, sorry, I worded this in a bossy way, these are just my suggestions. It's still a good fakemon, I just think you can improve a lot this great concept.
>>
>>32119502
Would you prefer "unnecessarily angsty-looking, especially around the eyes which are attempting to look fierce but fail spectacularly due to the artist's lack of experience in that particular style of drawing"?

Actually, I kind of prefer that myself. Sorta pinpoints the problem instead of using a buzzword.
>>
>>32119535
Actually, adding on to that, the feet and some other parts of the body are very cartoonish but well done, but the serious parts of the design are poorly done and clash with the cartoony parts, suggesting a skilled artist venturing outside their territory. Keep practicing anon!

It's a bridge troll pokemon, and I'm struggling with the typing. I'd like it to be fairy type but not sure if fairy/ground or rock.

SpDefence: 60

This design is awesome, really charming. To be honest though, it doesn't seem to fit the theme of Fairy type. I get that it's based on bridge trolls, but it's large size and hulkish appearance make it look more like a pure ground type or rock type. Pokemon based on onis don't necessarily have to be dark type, for example. Then again, it loses some of it's personality without the fairy typing. I'd just go with the type combination you want it to have. If you already have an abundance of fairy-type pokemon in your fakemon dex (If you have one), maybe go with pure rock or ground. Even (ground/rock)/fighting could work.

Gonna be straight and say that it's really mediocre, and doesn't have anything about it that makes it stand out. I don't want to sound like an ass but it needs either a do-over or major facelift.

When you design a fakemon, you want to establish what it **is**. If it's just a snake with spikes, all anyone will see of it is a snake with spikes. If you had something else in mind, you've failed to make that apparent. Why not trying to think of a design element that would compliment a snake?

Also as a personal opinion, I think you should focus more on getting outlines and proportions matching Pokemon's. Sometimes things just don't look like Pokemon simply because it's just using weird lines, so I'd suggest giving that a shot.

Posting some of my half-baked designs that I could use some help with. I got the idea of making a pokemon based around metaphysical conceits from god knows where. The idea is that the paper ring around it displays words or pokemon cries it has heard (would be displayed as squiggles on a sprite/model). Normal/Grass, or maybe just Normal. The ring spins and the Pokemon says the word it lands on. Some are able to form full sentences. The little picker could be a pointed seed (based on John Donne's beard). Can spin the outer ring at fast speeds for a cutting attack.

I can't draw, but i had this idea yesterday at night. They would be the two regional bugs and the regional bird of the region, and they would work in a food chain-like cycle.
The first bug is a Bug/Dark tarantula hawk, the second bug is a Bug/Psychic hummingbird moth, and the bird is a Normal/Flying hummingbird that evolves into a Water/Flying stork.
The wasp hunts the moth, the moth does something (not sure what, maybe it sucks all the flowers and leaves the bird with no food at all?) to the first stage bird, and the first stage bird hunts the wasp.
>>
>>32121840
>>32121825

It's interesting, but really fucking weird?
>>
>>32121872
If I may suggest, make the moth hypnotise/control the hummingbird to protect it from the tarantula hawk (it already is a psychic type...) and so the cycle perpetuates.
>>
>>32121959
Oh and also, give them a subjacent design trope. What I mean is, make them based in something that shares this relationship, like a rock-paper-scissors theme or something more creative that you can put into the design.

Same guy as last thread here. I can kinda see where you're coming from with the psychic angle, since that forced behaviour is what keeps it functional. But as you're already aware, drawing a humanoid creature and then put a literal scale in its mouth seems very weird and (relatively) unnatural, it could work in a RPG/DnD setting but not in Pokemon.

Pic related are two sketches I made on the concept of scales. Top one was my first thought of using an ox's horn to mimic the scales, but I was quickly met by some issues since the horns alone doesn't make for a clear scale connection and thus I just added something quick to hang onto it as weights. Bottom one is what was made afterwards where its shoulders are the scales and the arms the weights, thus a creature that relies less on its arms and more of its upper body to direct the arms.

If you want to use either of use, feel free. Although I lowkey like the ape one, so if you don't take it then I will.

>>32119482
Yo.

I already have a fakemon based on the rocker concept, so anyone is free to use that drawing, although the original guy who made the bird designs take priority.

>>32119416
>more people are using the "Notable Moves" format

Nice.

Once again though, this is a creature that for some reason just happens to get hold of an object that somehow improves its battle properties. Is it out of the question to make its tail the torch? Because one should first try to make use of the body features before considering to add separate objects to the design.

Unsure if the racing features should be in there too, I guess it relates to the olympics seeing how the dogs are competing, but don't try to fit too many themes into the same design. Also, the first stage seems largely basic and should be scrapped unless you have a strong reason for keeping it.
>>
>>32121959
>>32121977
The hypnotizing idea is nice, and the rock-paper-scissors too. The bird would obviously be the scissors, the moth would be the paper because moths have soft wings, but i'm not sure how to fit the wasp with rock. Would a Bug/Rock type with a rock stinger be a good idea?

Wow dude, that first ox design is such a cutie. I'll take the ox design and alter it to make it mine, if that's okay- they're your designs, so the ape is all yours. But yeah, your critique has been really helpful, thanks so much.
>>32122868
I'm assuming the rock-paper-scissors theme wasn't meant to be taken literally, but instead relating to types, such as how starters are weak to one of the other starter types and strong against another.
>>
>>32122706
Didn't make its tail a torch since I tried to replicate a baton as well based on the gimmick and basis of the mon, also the evolution line concept goes from introvert, useless-looking pup to extrovert and resourceful dog, think of it as a Magikarp but with a middle stage. And also yes, some parts need more fixing in order to look less overwhelming with the concepts, like the torso, body patterrn, and some cartoonish/non-cartoonish contrasts, gonna take your tips, guys.
>>
>>32123014
No my dude, I meant literally. What I tried to say is, they need a secondary theme, otherwise they are just animals. I was working on the idea of rock-paper-scissors actually, but I hit a wall with making the wasp convey "rock" without losing the "dark" typing. I'll post my designs later to see if you like the idea anon.
