The writers really did purposely bury Misty's character over 14 years ago in 2002. It's kind of telling that despite how much the fandom talks about her, she really has been completely absent in the anime for like 80% of its run now, and hasn't even had a cameo since AG.

Bar the possibility of her appearing in Movie 20, it's rather obvious Misty's been irrelevant to the anime for almost 15 years now. I don't know why some people delude themselves into thinking she's ever a character that will get any type of major role ever again.
