Well I just hide all the terrible threads and most generals, it keeps the crowd I don't want out of my face for the most part. Should work during the day if the typical topics you are interested in aren't a popular source for shitposting.

I filter most generals, I manually shift+click hide starter threads, I filtered "verlis*," and I plopped in a few terrible thread starters as well (e.g. "was it autism?,"what went wrong/right?," etc.). Other than that it's mostly manually hidden.

Literally the only thing /qa/ is even remotely usable for is making threads alerting mods to blatant, inarguable mass shitposting on some board, like porn dumps or catalog spam, if reporting it doesn't seem to have any effect.

But current /qa/ regulars are just shitposters that hang out there to shitpost about boards they don't like, so them laughing about anything isn't particularly relevant.

/qa/ went to shit when Hiro did his first Q&A session and 4chan as a whole was reminded of its existence. After moot's original Q&A had ended, the unlisted board got turned into a meta discussion board by those few that were still around, but after Hiro reminded everyone it existed, a bunch of spergatrons turned it into a "delete this thing I don't like" board practically overnight.
