Why are pokemon moves called moves? Why don't simply call them skills, attacks, stands, etc.? This is so fucking stupid. I imagine pheromosa using a high jump kick for every step she does because high jump kick is a type of move in the pokemon world.

Because all pokémon attacks are moves but not all moves are attacks.
>>31981435
how can moves like endure be moves?
>>31981478
Not all moves require physical movement in order to have an effect, retard. Just like psychic attacks.

Could this perhaps be a homage to the popular anime and manga series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, ジョジョの奇妙な冒険, (JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken), written by Hirohiko Araki?

give the turkish model sucker punch or extreme speed and it would be as good as deoxys, too bad it'll never learn them

The Official Pokemon Handbook refers to them as "techniques".
>>31981393
In Poland we call them attacks.
>>31981620
>>31981393
In France the term used ingame is "capacities", but everyone just calls them attacks since that's what the anime used back in Gen 1.
>>31981602
It's technique in Japanese too.
>>31981393
Why is the Hadouken considered a Technique and not an attack? Why is the Shoryuken considered a Technique and not an attack?
The same happens to Pokémon, they are called moves because the main idea was to combinate a Fighting game with an RPG.
>>31981393
People name it that.
>>31981620
in russia too
>>31981393
The series has largely done away with the idea of attacks literally just being normal punches/kickes/slashes/etc.
Everything now uses the anime's interpretation, where every attack is powered by some kind of magic/energy.
Which helps to explain why certain types are weak to others beyond game balance.
I.E. There's a difference between just scratching the opponent, and using the move Scratch.

sometimes i'll inadvertently say cast, like 'arbok cast toxic'
usually for status moves

just keeping track of it, sometimes i'll play while doing other things so i'm not always paying attention to the screen
so when i look back i need to figure out what happened, so in that example i'd be like 'oh ok, arbok cast toxic'
wish the games kept a log of what's happened, showdown has spoiled me
