Sorry but Fire types and especially starters are pretty weak in most cases...

They are only good against Grass, Bug, Steel and Ice Types. Ice Types are pretty rare and go down to Fighting and Steel. Same goes for Steel - use a Fighting attack, strong attacking Bugs are few and Grass goes down to a lot of other type of attacks. Quite unnecessary after all to have one. Didn't have a fire type in any of my last playthroughs, or switched it out towards the end.
